During a Thursday appearance on Fox News Channel’s Fox and Friends, Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky tore into his old enemy of 2020 and 2021, Dr. Anthony Fauci, explaining why he referred Dr. Fauci to the Justice Department for criminal prosecution.
Specifically, Sen. Paul alleged that Dr. Fauci lied under oath to Congress when he claimed that the government never funded the gain of function research in Wuhan, China, which many argue led to the Covid-19 disease and pandemic. Sen. Paul said that Dr. Fauci’s lies were perjury and so need to be prosecuted by the Department of Justice.
Beginning, Sen. Paul directly accused Dr. Fauci of perjury, saying that this was the most obvious case ever of lying to Congress. In his words, “I don’t think there has ever been a clearer case of perjury in the history of government testimony. And I don’t say that lightly. He said adamantly that the government never funded this gain of function research.”
Continuing, Sen. Paul explained how it is that he knows Dr. Fauci was lying when he claimed the gain of function research didn’t happen. Pointing to the GAO’s own statements, he said, “We now have the government accountability office, the GAO has admitted that the funding came from the NIH. We have the acting director of the NIH, [Lawrence] Tabak, admitting it in writing that it came from the NIH. But now we have really the smoking gun. That is Fauci in private saying the opposite of what he was saying in public.”
Sen. Paul then explained that Dr. Fauci was Janus-faced in his statements, saying one thing to Congress when pressed on what the NIH was up to in China and another privately when discussing Covid. Sen. Paul said, “When he was publicly telling me that, ‘Absolutely, we do not fund gain-of-function research in China,’ he says privately, ‘We are suspicious that the virus has been manipulated, and we are suspicious because we know they are doing gain-of-function research.‘”
Tying those private comments back to his claims in Congress, Sen. Paul argued that Dr. Fauci admitted to both the funding having happened and knowing about it in private, but that though the perjury is obvious, leftist AG Merrick Garland refuses to act on it.
“He then goes on to describe the research and it’s exactly the research that the NIH funded. So, he is caught dead to rights here, but we have an incredibly partisan Attorney General Garland who is refusing to act. So, I have taken the extraordinary step of actually going to the local U.S. Attorney in D.C. to see if he will act,” Sen. Paul said.
Ending his argument on Dr. Fauci’s crime and why he so far hasn’t been prosecuted for a clear case of lying to Congress, Sen. Paul said, “Now the problem is, there are partisans littered throughout the legal system and people are seeing this. You don’t get prosecuted if you are a Democrat under this administration no matter what you do.”
