The Arizona Cardinals recently issued an apology to a woman who was told that she needed to remove her pro-Trump “Make America Great Again” hat to gain entrance to the State Farm stadium, where the NFL team was set to play the Los Angeles Rams over the weekend. However, the Cardinals have since contacted the fan, claiming a staff member misunderstood a stadium policy.
According to a statement provided to Fox News Digital, the team said, “In an isolated incident at Sunday’s game, a stadium security member misunderstood a policy on prohibited items. Like most venues, ‘signage, posters, flags, or displays that are….political in nature’ are not permitted. However, that did not apply in this instance. Moving forward we will work to provide clarity to all stadium personnel in these situations. We have also reached out to the individual involved to communicate that their experience was not consistent with our policies and practices and to apologize for that.”
“She’s like, ‘No political hats or shirts.’ And I said, ‘I haven’t heard that at all.’ And I said, ‘That doesn’t make sense to me.’ And she goes, ‘I said, Take your hat off,’” she recalled. In the moment, Rosener complied with the request, but in hindsight, she wishes she would have stood her ground. “In retrospect, I wish I would have stood my ground,” she stated.
The controversial incident gained traction on social media after Turning Point Action Field Rep. VP Alyssa Goncales used her platform on X to draw attention to the matter. “A friend of friend went to the @AZCardinals game yesterday in her very tasteful black Make America Great Again hat. As she goes to enter the stadium a female security guard proceeds to stop her and tell her she can’t enter the stadium with her hat. The security guard then proceeded to get very confrontational and told her she wasn’t going to be allowed to go in no matter if she took it off or not,” she said.
The conservative activist continued, “The only way she was allowed in was if the security guard watched her throw her hat in the trash! Disgusting! There is nothing on their website stating that she can’t wear something like this in the stadium. Is it seriously offensive for a hat to say that we want to make America great? That’s insane! So what happened @AZCardinals? Why was this allowed?! Unfortunately this is the sad truth of the America we live in. Vote for the party of sanity and let’s Make America Sane Again!”
In another statement, the Cardinals further maintained that the incident would not repeat itself. “We have only heard from one individual. But if there were a couple others that had a similar interaction that should not have happened either. Again, it’s not our practice and in the 18+ seasons we’ve been in this stadium, it apparently has never occurred previously. Moving forward, though, we will work with all of the third party groups that interact with our fans to make sure this abundantly clear.”
