On Wednesday, New Yorkers shouted at one of the two men charged with the fatal shooting of NYPD Officer Jonathan Diller during his perp walk.  Diller was shot and killed as he was conducting a traffic stop in Far Rockaway, Queens.

41-year-old Lindy Jones was the driver of the vehicle that was stopped by the Diller and his partner for being illegally parked at a bus stop.  Jones has been charged with possession of a criminal weapon and defacing a firearm according to reports.  However, no charges have been announced for the suspected shooter, Guy Rivera, in the incident that killed the officer.

During the brief walk, Jones did not respond to any of the questions and statements that were thrown at him before he was placed in a police vehicle.  Those in the near vicinity shouted things such as “what do you have to say to his family, Lindy?” and “there is a baby that is gonna grow up without a father, Lindy” as well as “Shame on you young man.”

Jonathan McAuley, Diller’s brother-in-law shared a post on Facebook, honoring the fallen police officer.  “The Lord called my brother-in-law, Jonathan Diller, home. Surrounded by family and the the men and women in blue, he was walked out [honorably], to many tears and salutes from Jamaica Hospital. What started out as an everyday car stop, instantly became a moment where so many lives would be turned upside down. Jon leaves behind a wife and a one-year-old son who will now grow up without his father,” McAuley posted.

McAuley further offered a warning to other police officers in light of Diller’s death, illustrating how a situation can devolve into chaos within the blink of an eye.  The brother-in-law further noted that the heroic NYPD officer’s will be forever remembered by the family.

“To those of you out there in the streets, it can be so easy to become wrapped into the moment. To think horrible events like this cant happen to you. To become focused on making that next arrest or racing to the action. Remember those who love you at those moments,” he added in the post. “Jon, there are no words to describe how [devastated] we are that you are gone. You were a good man and a great father whose shoes can never be filled. I swear to you that I will look after your son as if he were my own. For the rest of my life.”

The American Tribune initially reported on the horrific crime that claimed the life of the NYPD veteran, where NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban praised the fallen officer for his work and service to the New York City community.

“Tonight this city lost a hero, a wife lost her husband, and a young child lost their father. We struggle to find the words to express the tragedy of losing one of our own. The work that Police Officer Jonathan Diller did each day to make this city a safer place will NEVER be forgotten.” He continud, “Our prayers are with his family, loved ones, and brothers and sisters in blue.”
