The latest installment in the Star Wars franchise, “The Acolyte,” has been plagued with bad reviews since its release in early June. As episodes continue to be released, the abysmal reception among audiences has not slowed down. In fact, some of the show’s reviews place it as one of the poorest-rated pieces of entertainment in the entire Star Wars franchise.
Conservatives have particularly criticized “The Acolyte,” pointing out the woke themes constantly touted throughout the episodes. The continuation of the Star Wars saga under Disney features the typical woke attitudes found throughout the entertainment industry alongside outspoken individuals such as the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, and actress Amandla Stenberg.
As Trending Views recently opined on the Disney-driven Star Wars controversy, “Disney continues to ruin titles with wokeness, something that most viewers don’t care about, especially when they’re watching a show rooted in science fiction.” Particularly within the Star Wars community, fans have long complained that the franchise began to decline when it was acquired by Disney.
The report further suggested that there is an “agenda” at the entertainment giant to “ruin things” with woke ideology. The outlet continued, “There must be some sort of agenda at Disney, otherwise they wouldn’t continue to ruin things with wokeness. Another example is how one Disney theme park had a full grown man, in a dress, with a mustache, working at a store that sells dresses for little girls. Parents and children were disgusted when they saw it. One little girl even said “why is that man in a dress?””
As of writing this article, “The Acolyte” currently has an audience rating of 17% on Rotten Tomatoes, a sharp contrast from the 80% average rating among critics. A synopsis of the film reads, “A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.”
Last month, The American Tribune reported on the initial reception of the show, just days after it had debuted. In early June, “The Acolyte’s” audience score of 33% was nearly double what it currently sits at, showing that it has continued a precipitous decline as more episodes have been released. At the time, reports suggested that the show was the second-worst rated piece of Star Wars entertainment, just above a notoriously bad holiday special from 1978. However, based on the viewer-based metric, the latest audience score of 17% would put “The Acolyte” in last place.
