A shocking new report has revealed that President Donald Trump is managing to accomplish what not many other presidents before him have been able to do: shrink the size of the federal government workforce. Many politicians in the past, especially Republican ones, have stated while campaigning that we need to slash the size of the government, but in reality, it expanded on their watch.
Now, thanks to President Trump, the tide is shifting in huge ways. According to new data, the federal government is now shrinking at a historic pace. During the month of March, the government lost a total of 18,000 jobs. That puts it at 2.66 million, which is the lowest since 1966. And it’s the 14th consecutive month of decline in this area.
Since the start of 2025, when Trump first took office for his second term, the federal government has taken a proverbial machete to its workforce, cutting 352,000 jobs, which is a reduction of around 12%. Conservative voters and Republican lawmakers believe this is an effective means of reducing unnecessary bureaucracy and stripping tools out of the hands of the radical left-wing deep state actors within the government.
When it comes to the percentage of total employment, the creation of new federal jobs is down 1.67%, which is the lowest figure on record. During the 1960s, the addition of new government jobs was 4.2%. Never, in the recent history of our nation, has the federal workforce been this small. And, as usual, folks across the country have strong feelings, both good and bad, toward the cuts being made.
One commenter on the data posted by The Kobeissi Letter on social media platform X asked a pertinent question concerning when the government will begin to feel the impact from all of the cuts that have been made. “You mean how long before things start running smoothly?! Need to cut MANY more before basic services improve – that’s for sure! Matter of fact, most of those ‘services’ should be eliminated!” A user replied.
Another individual brought up how many of the jobs these individuals were doing amounted to little more than an adult daycare, noting much of what these workers did could be automated with artificial intelligence. “Awesome. AI actually has a great application here. Most of these jobs are BS adult daycare,” the user went on to write.

One individual shared their theory that the slashing of government employees wasn’t actually saving Americans money due to the jobs being filled by contract workers. “They are shedding jobs and replacing them with contract workers. Don’t be delusional to think we’re saving money. We’re not. Laying off GSA workers and hiring back at higher rates. This is what’s ACTUALLY happening,” they said.
Someone else wrote that this is but a drop in the bucket and much more would need to be cut for it to matter. “We need the federal government to be cut in half. administration is eating far too much of the budget, and the end result seems to be fraud where administrators are handing money to cronies rather than helping people,” the person wrote.
