Lin Wood is the Georgia {former) attorney who helped represent Trump during the 2020 election and, because of the number of unsubstantiated claims he allegedly made during the circus that turned into, lost his law license in Georgia. But then he wasn’t indicted by DA Fani Willis alongside Trump and much of his 2020 legal team, with the reason looking like he has turned “witness of the state” for the Trump trial.
Wood wasn’t always a grifter and hack lawyer. He famously represented numerous high-profile clients, such as the parents of slain child beauty queen JonBenét Ramsey and Richard Jewell, the security guard at the 1996 Atlanta Summer Olympics who was falsely accused of plotting to set off pipe bombs at the event.
But then he worked for Trump and seemingly went crazy, making irresponsibly outlandish claims when prudent, verifiable ones might have helped Trump in his legal battle following the 2020 election and potentially even won battles in the uphill slog that was that fight.
In any case, Mr. Wood has gone from being a grifter to a turncoat, with The Messenger reporting, “The DA says that Wood, a staunchly pro-Trump lawyer who became one of the most visible purveyors of 2020 election conspiracy theories, is also a witness ‘for the state.‘”
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported much the same thing, reporting, “Prosecutors wrote that MacDougald was co-counsel with Atlanta attorney Lin Wood in a lawsuit attacking Georgia’s use of Dominion voting machines in the election, and stated that Wood and the plaintiffs in that lawsuit would be state witnesses. In addition, the filing states that MacDougald was Wood’s attorney in another lawsuit filed against Raffensperger.”
Mr. Wood, for his part, insisted on Telegram that the reports indicating he had flipped on former President Trump were untrue. “I have been subjected to a barrage of Mockingbird media requests this morning to comment on stories claiming that I have “flipped” on President Trump because I have been subpoenaed as a witness in the Powell case,” he began.
Continuing, he added, “There is NO TRUTH to those accusations. I have no idea why I am being asked to testify at the trial. I have had no discussions with the DA’s office since I testified before the special grand jury several months ago.”
He then blamed the MSM as being at fault for his troubles, writing, “Strikes me as yet another effort by the FAKE media to attack or smear me. Fake news is fake news. Always has been. Always will be. Enjoy your afternoon. God bless each of you. Lin 🙏❤️🇺🇸”
Mr. Wood did not, however, indicate why the charges against him were not forthcoming, despite his role in the activities for which DA Willis is prosecuting former President Trump and much of his legal team from 2020, a salient fact that indicates more could be at play than Mr. Wood’s characterization of what has happened. Given his record from 2020 and 2021 and the betrayal many in the MAGA movement felt when his claims never panned out, it is hard to take his word for it.
