In yet another major black eye for the woke media apparatus, a sensational NBC News report that tried to delegitimize ICE’s anti-illegal alien operation in Massachusetts has been shown to be a total lie that was meant to attack ICE and the Trump Administration rather than shed light on the truth about what is going on.
As background, the report came out of a raid in Leominster, which is about one hour to the northwest of Boston. According to the initial NBC News report, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) tried to use a 5-year-old girl as “bait” in an effort to arrest her illegal immigrant parents, a claim soon shown to be untrue.
The situation began when ICE tried to pull over an illegal alien who was wanted on a slew of criminal charges, including domestic abuse, strangulation, and vandalizing property. The illegal alien at issue, named Edwards Hip Mejia, raced from his car into his home, flipping his middle finger at ICE officers as he did so.
As he did so, Mejia left his little daughter sitting inside his vehicle, ignoring her in his attempt to flee from ICE. Mejia then insisted that the ICE officers give him his child, but the officer demanded ID from them before doing so, so as not to hand a little girl to a man who had been fleeing from the police moments before.
“Is that your daughter? Come here so I can see those IDs,” the officer can be heard asking in the video. “Hey, I can give it through the door,” Mejia tells him. The officer, in response, tells the suspect to leave the house and present the ID “right here.” Mejia then started yelling at the officers about his daughter, shouting, “Don’t touch her!” An officer can be heard telling him, “You’re more than welcome to come pick her up.”
ICE agents eventually turned over the girl, who is an American citizen, to her grandmother as both Mejia and his wife, who have been in America illegally for over two decades, refused to leave the house. NBC News then took the giving of the girl to her grandmother and claimed that ICE had held the little girl “hostage” in an attempt to get her dad to surrender.
The Department of Homeland Security fired back on X, posting a picture of the NBC News headline claiming that ICE had held the little child hostage so she could be used as “bait,” and snapping, “.@NBCNews— these smears are SICK. Our ICE agents NEVER used a 5-year-old girl as ‘bait.’”

Continuing, DHS noted that what really happened was that an illegal alien with a horrific record had abandoned his child, saying, “The criminal illegal alien target of the operation—with previous arrests for domestic abuse, strangulation, and vandalizing property—ABANDONED HIS OWN CHILD in a car.”
Concluding, DHS said, “Edwards Hip Mejia, a criminal illegal alien from Guatemala, ignored law enforcement emergency lights and darted inside his house, abandoning his 5-year-old daughter in the car. Officers helped rescue the child and called local police to report the abandonment. Stop the smears. Stop the lies.”
