This past weekend, NASCAR posted a tweet wishing everyone a happy “holiday season” in reference to Christmas. “Happy Holidays” is commonly used to be more “inclusive” and avoid saying “Merry Christmas”.
NASCAR posted on its Twitter account, “To all those celebrating this month, we wish you a safe and joyous holiday season!”

Fans of NASCAR took to the comment section to voice their frustration with the tweet as it seems the organization is turning its back on the culture of the fanbase. NASCAR’s fanbase is predominantly southern, conservative, and Christian.
Here are some of the responses found in the comments under NASCAR’s “happy holidays” tweet:
“It’s Merry Christmas- Sincerely, A Muslim.”
“I remember when NASCAR used to say Merry Christmas.”
“Merry Christmas to all my NASCAR Libs who manage this account”
“Screw that! MERRY CHRISTMAS!”
“Can’t say Merry Christmas @nascar? Pathetic.”
“What happened to Merry Christmas?”
“Hey NASCAR it’s MERRY CHRISTMAS!!”
“The correct term is Merry Christmas”
“I think what you meant to say was “Merry CHRISTmas”!!!”
Breitbart commented on NASCAR’s strive for inclusivity:
“If there’s a sport out there that is doing more to actively disassociate from the fan base that has made it a raging success, I’d like to know who it is.”
An editorial from Autoracing1.com which addressed NASCARS corporate behavior over the past several years reported:
“In an effort to expand its appeal, NASCAR has increasingly begun enacting woke, left-wing policies even though its fan base is overwhelmingly conservative red-staters.”
“NASCAR’s woke policies might seem to be a slap in the face to its overwhelmingly white, male, Midwestern/southern fans. And according to the Morning Consult poll cited above, the political breakdown of the racing league’s fans are 45 percent Republican, 27 percent independent, and only 28 percent Democrat.”
“The 45% figure for Republican NASCAR fans is a full 12 points higher than the average number of Republicans in all other sports. Meaning, NASCAR has a significantly more conservative fan base than every other sports league.”
“Another poll finds that 63 percent of fans are male, southern fans make up the largest share (37 percent), and only 20 percent of fans are Hispanic or black.”
“With numbers like this, it seems more likely that if NASCAR continues pushing woke policies, it will go farther toward angering its bread-and-butter fan base than it will to help add new fans.”
There have been several high profile actions taken by the racing organization that could be considered “woke”. In 2021, the “F*** Joe Biden” chant was born at the Talladega Speedway. The reporter covering the race lied on air, stating the fans were shouting “Let’s go Brandon”. NASCAR executives expressed support for the reporter who lied about the chant and disavowed the newly famous slogan that was being heard around the country.
In addition, NASCAR fully supported Bubba Wallace when he allegedly found a “noose” hanging in his garage. After nationwide coverage of the event and endless accusations of racism, an FBI investigation concluded that the “noose” was just a rope used to pull shut the garage door.
NASCAR claims they are on a mission to diversify and expand their audience. However, its core fanbase feels as if the sport is turning its back on them, just like every other virtue-signaling corporation.
