The Pelosi family is back in the news for bad behavior, though this time it isn’t stock trading that is at issue: it’s a hit-and-run charge. Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul apparently slammed a brown Maserati convertible into a parked car in Napa Valley. The incident apparently occurred at about 2:30 pm in the town of Yountville in Napa.
According to a witness of the incident, Paul Pelosi used his Maserati to slam into a car that was legally parked and fortunately unoccupied, and he caused “major rear damage” to that parked vehicle. He used his Maserati to push the other vehicle onto the curb before driving away from the scene of the incident.
After the incident, deputies from the Napa Valley Sheriff’s Office who arrived found Pelosi’s damaged Maserati convertible blocking a nearby roadway, and they were able to identify the 86-year-old Paul Pelosi as the owner of the vehicle. He now faces a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge over the incident.
The deputies who spoke to Pelosi reported that he told them that he had hit something when driving but did not know what it was, and so kept driving and drove away from the scene of the accident. He apparently kept driving away until his Maserati became disabled, and he left it.
According to those same authorities, alcohol was apparently not a factor in the crash or in the incident generally. “The investigation also determined that no alcohol (.00 on Preliminary Alcohol Screening Device) was detected upon testing, therefore Driving Under the Influence was ruled out,” the sheriff’s office said, Fox News Digital reports. That is different from the last time Paul Pelosi was in the news for a driving issue: in May of 2022, he pleaded guilty to misdemeanor drunken driving causing injury.
However, it does appear that authorities suspect that his old age might have been at play in the incident generally and in his very poor handling of it, as the sheriff’s office is submitting a re-evaluation referral to the California Department of Motor Vehicles in response to the accident and incident, which is reportedly common when elderly drivers like Paul Pelosi are involved in incidents such as these.
Further, the sheriff’s department investigators found that Paul Pelosi was clearly responsible for the accident and was wrong in driving away from the scene of it, but he was not arrested at the scene. Instead, the case has been referred to the Napa County District Attorney’s Office for potential prosecution.

The Pelosi family issued a statement on the matter to The California Post in which it acted like the main problem was the damage to the car that Paul Pelosi had battered and left, rather than the misdemeanor charge stemming from the hit-and-run. “Mr. Paul Pelosi has personally apologized to the owner of the vehicle and assured them that he would take responsibility for the damage to their vehicle,” a spokesperson for the Pelosi family said. That statement then added, “Speaker Pelosi will not be commenting further on this private matter.”
