“Move All That Back”: Biden Caps Gaffe-Filled Speech with Losing Battle with the Teleprompter

Last week, President Biden hosted a White House reception to celebrate Greek Independence Day.  However, Biden’s speech contained many gaffes, which have become commonplace in his speeches, alongside complications with Biden’s teleprompter.

Popular conservative X account RNC Research, which the Republican National Committee manages, documented the mishaps that occurred during the speech, sharing several videos highlighting the malfunctions.

Biden kicked off his remarks by claiming he was “only able to stand there” because of the Greek community, without substantiating why that is.  “The only reason I’m able to stand here is because of the Greek community. That’s not hyperbole!” the president said.

As the speech continued, Biden even fell behind the pace at which his teleprompter was moving.  The president had to ask the teleprompter operator to “move all that back,” requesting them to rewind it.  At another point during his comments, he even employed his trademark whisper voice where he had trouble pronouncing “the Obama-Biden administration.

Furthermore, Biden also told the debunked story of traveling “17,000 miles” with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping.  “I was once asked by Xi Jinping, and I traveled 17,000 miles with him into bed and I was at a Tibetan Plateau. And he looked at me and he said to me, can you define America? And I could say the same thing. If he asked me to define Greece. I said, yes, one word. I mean, this is fairly, it’s regular. It’s recorded. I said one word possibilities, possibility,” Biden said.

Many have criticized Biden for continually telling this story over the years despite being proven factually incorrect.  Reports from a White House official indicated that “This was a reference to the total travel back and forth — both internally in the U.S. and China, and as well as internationally — for meetings they held together.  Some travel was in parallel, some was separately to joint destinations.”  Watch footage from the Greek Independence Day speech at the moment where Biden had a battle with the teleprompter operator:

The American Tribune reported on another recent speech from President Biden in which he appeared to have trouble reading sentences off the teleprompter and stringing them together in a naturally sounding way.  Joe Biden was delivering a speech in Wisconsin on “lowering costs for Americans,” which was also filled with several concerning moments where the president’s elderly age was apparent.

Moments such as these have become so prevalent throughout Biden’s term that they are no longer surprising to many Americans.  Subsequently, they have sparked questions as to whether Biden is truly fit to serve as the President of the United States on the grounds of his physical and mental health.

Polling has demonstrated that the vast majority of Americans believe Biden is too old to be reelected.  Moreover, the findings from Special Counsel Robert Hur further damaged this perception when the conclusion of the investigation cited concerns about Biden’s elderly age and complications with memory.
