Speaking to a reporter about the current state of things inside the Democratic Party regarding what is going on in the Democratic Party right now and why the drift to the far economic left of many of its members is a matter of major concern for him, Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) explained that those in his party who are openly embracing socialism are “morons.”
As background, the United States Senator from Pennsylvania was elected after a somewhat close election against Dr. Mehmet Oz, with many Republicans skeptical of him given his election-time stroke and seeming brain damage from it, not to mention his former status as a relatively far-left Democrat. However, he has, since his election, turned into a relatively moderate Democrat who mainly enters the news when he criticizes the left wing of his party, particularly AOC.
Such was the case yet again, on Tuesday, September 9, when Sen. Fetterman was asked about a recent poll conducted by Gallup that found that only 42 percent of Democrats have a favorable view of capitalism, while a massive two-thirds of Democrats “view socialism favorably.” Sen. Fetterman noted how absurd that is, and how survivors of communism in Europe told him how socialism ought be abhorred.
Alongside that extremely worrisome and somewhat shocking poll, NYC’s openly socialist Democratic candidate, Zohran Mamdani, a Muslim who is a naturalized American citizen originally from Uganda, has received the open support of fellow socialists, such as Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Rep. AOC (D-NY).
Asking the senator about the poll’s results and what it might mean for his party, a reporter on Capitol Hill asked him, “Senator, there’s a Gallup poll that was released that 42 percent of Democratic voters view capitalism favorably, while 66 percent of Democratic voters view socialism favorably. Do you think that’s a messaging issue for Democrats?”
Responding, Sen. Fetterman told the reporter that it was a “great question” and that it was the very sort of thing that he had asked survivors of communism while visiting Europe. He told the reporter, on that note, “Oh, that’s a great, it’s a great question. I literally was in a former communist nation, and I asked that.”
Continuing, he explained what he asked and what he was told, saying that the Croatians to whom he spoke were resolutely against socialism and warned that no Americans would want to live under such a system. He said, “I said, ‘Some people in my party, some of the lefties are talking about socialism now. What do you think?’ And he’s like, ‘That’s the worst thing ever. You would never want to live here, I’ve lived through that kind of a thing.'”

Further, the senator explained that he had been told that anyone who would possibly support such a system is an utter “moron” who needs a serious “reality check” about what it is that they are promoting. He said, “You’re going to need a reality check if you ever adopt any of those things. You know, like, you are morons. It’s like, it was a nightmare for us, and now we are a free market nation.’ It was Croatia.”
