Travis Swaggerty, a prospect in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization, announced on Wednesday that his wife had been infected with a rare and painful blood disease in the aftermath of a rabid raccoon attack.
Swaggerty took to Twitter to reveal the condition and ask for prayers and support from fans. In the post, he explained that “Peyton (his wife) heads to the Mayo Clinic (with Sutton and her parents and nana). after being attacked by a rabid raccoon over a year ago and a lot of guesses and medicines have been thrown
at her.”

In the immediate aftermath of the raccoon attack, doctors could not tell exactly why Peyton Swaggerty was feeling unwell and showing signs of sickness. Now, Peyton has been diagnosed with an “extremely rare, painful blood disease” which has infected her entire body.
Swaggerty was not posting this to ask for money or any other tangible item from readers, only to ask fans to keep Peyton in their thoughts and prayers. He said, “I wanted to share this to ask for support and prayers for her, along with reminding everyone to not take anything for granted in this life, especially the little things.”
Travis was also adamant that the family would continue to put their trust in God as Peyton began her medical treatment at the Mayo Clinic. He said, “Her faith and trust in God has never wavered. Please take the time to pray for her if you feel compelled to.” He ended the message by referencing Proverbs 3:5-6, which says:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”
Travis released another post just a few hours later, thanking his wife for her selflessness and for the role that she has continued to play as a mother despite her constant pain. Along with the message was a picture of Peyton with their daughter.
wanted to add to this and say regardless of how she’s feeling, she always makes sure she’s Mom first. every day she does everything in her power to make sure that Sutton has a great, fun day. she fights through everything she’s feeling to be the best mom she can be. https://t.co/zBxhRm4eUw pic.twitter.com/40f6Plg1qY

Peyton also released her own thank you to fans after receiving a slew of get well soon messages. She announced that she will be entering the Mayo Clinic that day and wanted to be sure that fans knew how much she appreciated them. She said, “Appointments and lots of tests began today at The Mayo Clinic! I’m in a lot of pain, but I am so hopeful the doctors here (along with God) will get my disease into remission.”

This ordeal, while terrible for the Swaggety family, is a great reminder that a large community of loving Christians is still very much present in today’s America. Even when it may seem that religion is being pushed away by mainstream media, hundreds of thousands have liked and shared these messages and placed Peyton Swaggerty in their thoughts and prayers.
