Major League Baseball Legend Jim Edmonds has found himself navigating his way through woke cancellation attempts after he spoke on air about Cleveland Indians and Washington Redskins mascots. In last night’s game between the Astros and Cardinals, Edmonds was announcing when he went off on his tangent about the team mascots that have now been replaced following woke complaints.
During the game, Edmonds began talking about fans who often are upset when their team changes its mascot. He says that he often hears from fans who share nostalgia for the days of an old team name that has since been forgotten. When asked for examples, Edmonds fearlessly brought up a fan who missed the name “Indians.”
“I actually got quite a few messages on social media,” said Edmonds. “About some of the teams and then, you know, it’s really funny when people reach out to you and say, ‘Hey, I’m from this area, and we really love our baseball here.’ And somebody else will say ‘Yeah, I wish they had the old name that they used to have.’ It’s just funny to hear everyone’s opinion.”
Speaking to Chip Caray, Edmonds said, “I always thought it was kind of a cool thing, not a bad thing, to have a team named after the Indians or vice versa, whatever, the Washington Redskins.” Immediately after that sentence, a groundout to second base ended the inning and, along with it, the conversation.
Edmonds did note that his wife is part “Native American Indian” although that is unlikely to help his case when the cancel mob comes after him. Edmonds didn’t shy away from getting specific, however, calling out the recently renamed Cleveland Guardians, saying, “I’m still shocked that we’ve changed so much as a whole that we’re not allowed to have the Cleveland Indians anymore — the Guardians.”
Of course, many on the left could not contain themselves when they saw this posted on twitter and swarmed to get in their two cents about the evil atrocity that Edmonds committed in their opinion. One user said, “I haven’t tweeted about Jim Edmonds in a while because I don’t watch many Cardinals games these days. But guess what folks? Jim Edmonds still f***ing sucks as a broadcaster.”
Another Twitter user, incensed that Edmonds dared to question the woke mob, wrote, “Jim Edmonds crashed into the centerfield wall a few times too many.” It is telling, however, that most of the comments seemed to be in support of Edmonds’ opinion. Many fans came to his support, saying that they agree the renaming of teams to appease woke ideology is a silly way of virtue signaling and nothing more.
Whether Edmonds will be forced to apologies and cower in fear for his job is yet to be seen. Thankfully for him, he made million in the MLB and can certain afford to stick to his guns on this one.
