Under the Biden administration, we have allowed at least one economic migrant into the United States for every single newborn American or high school graduate in the last year. President Biden and his officials have been heavily criticized for having little to no control over the southern border or who is entering the country.
According to recent data, over 4 million economic migrants crossed the southern border with Mexico during the government’s fiscal budget year. Simultaneously, only 3.67 million Americans were born during the same time frame in 2022. Reportedly, 400,000 of these births were from illegal immigrants.
The vast inflow of migrants into the country could create stiff economic competition as it alters the structure of the labor market. As a basic supply and demand model would necessitate, as the available supply of labor skyrockets, there is less bargaining power for workers. Thus, wages are depressed.
Furthermore, the inflow of millions of people could create competition for housing and further drive up rent and home prices, which are tremendously overinflated in many regions within the United States. Reports indicate there is a growing number of Americans who are forced to live out of their cars after being priced out of their housing arrangements.
Over the years, President Biden has often touted the supposed benefits of mass migrations to the United States and the ever-changing demographic makeup of the United States. “We are Muslim communities but African communities, Asian communities, Hispanic communities, and, and the wave still continues,” Biden said in a former speech.
“It’s not going to stop. Nor should we want it to stop. As a matter of fact, is one of the things I think we can be most proud of. There’s a second thing in that black box, an unrelenting stream of immigration, non stop non stop. Folks like me who were Caucasian of European descent, for the first time in 2017, will be an absolute minority in the United States of America. Absolute minority, fewer than 50% of the people in America from then and on will be white European stock. That’s not a bad thing. That’s a source of our strength,” he continued.
The United States Secretary of Homeland Security has been heavily criticized for doing nothing to secure the southern border. When questioned on what a secure border would look like, Mayorkas gave a very roundabout answer, speaking on America’s supposed “values.”
“There is not a common definition of that. If one looks at [Congress’s 2006] statutory definition, the literal interpretation of the statutory language, if one person successfully evades law enforcement at the border, then we have breached the security of the border … Our goal is to achieve operational control of the border, to do everything that we can to support our personnel with the resources, the technology, the policies, that really advance the security of the border, and do not come at the cost of the values of our country. I say that because in the prior [Donald Trump] administration, policies were promulgated or passed that did not hew to the values that we hold dear,” he said.
