Michael Strahan and his 19-year-old daughter Isabella gave a joint interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America to discuss her recent brain tumor diagnosis and to share about the trials that have come along with it. After keeping the situation within the family in recent months, Isabella opened up and shared about her condition with the world.

Michael Strahan spoke first, making sure to explain how proud he is is of the young woman that Isabella has become and to express publicly the support and love that has been unwavering for his daughter during her trials in recent months.

He said, “I literally think that in a lot of ways, I’m the luckiest man in the world because I’ve got an amazing daughter… I know she’s going through it, but I know that we’re never given more than we can handle and that she is going to crush this. I don’t know what I would do without her.”

Isabella was a star high school student before choosing to attend the University of Southern California for her college experience. In October of her first year, however, those plans became derailed. Constant headaches mired her time in school and caused her to worry until she began vomiting blood. That caused her sister to get the family involved and urge Isabella to seek help.

She would go on to be diagnosed with medulloblastoma in October and has since begun treatment fighting against the disease, which she detailed to Robin Roberts in the interview posted below. She went on to explain what the symptoms felt like.

She said, “That’s when I definitely noticed headaches, nausea, couldn’t walk straight…I dreaded waking up, but I was throwing up blood. I was like, ‘Hmm, this probably isn’t good.’” After initial doubt that anything was wrong and blaming it on vertigo, Isabella went to seek medical help.

The interview wasn’t all doom and gloom, as Isabella had some exciting news to share. She said, “I just finished radiation therapy, which is proton radiation. It was very exciting because it’s been a long 30 sessions, six weeks…. I’m feeling good. Not too bad. And I’m very excited for this whole process to wrap.”

Now, with chemotherapy on the horizon, Isabella is ready to get back to a normal life soon. She explained, “I’m looking forward to getting back to college and moving back to California and just starting my school experience over. Not over, but just restarting, being back into a routine and something that’s enjoyable.”

A golfball-sized growth was removed from Isabella’s head on October 27th in a last-minute emergency surgery. That was one day before she turned 19. Following those life-saving procedures, forecasts of her health and well-being have continued to become more and more positive. With new rounds of chemotherapy on the books at Duke Children’s Hospital, along with a video series documenting her recovery, the Strahan’s are increasingly hopeful with the road they are on.
