Former First Lady Melania Trump recently expressed her unwavering support for her husband, Donald Trump, ahead of his criminal trial in the New York hush-money case. Melania labeled the trial as “unfair” and a “disgrace,” according to sources familiar with the matter.
Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in an alleged attempt to hide a $130,000 payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. The former president has pleaded not guilty to the charges. Accusations suggest that Trump made the payment ahead of the 2016 election, where he defeated Hillary Clinton, to buy her silence about an alleged affair he allegedly had with Daniels.
While Melania, who has been married to Trump for nearly two decades, has refused to publicly comment on the trial, a source who claims to be closely tied to the former first lady stated that she has slammed the trial as unfair and “a disgrace.” Reportedly, Melania also shares a sentiment similar to her husband’s, that the legal battles against him are comparable to election interference.
The American Tribune reported on other recent news regarding Melania, where she told a reporter last month to “stay tuned” when asked if she would be returning to the campaign trail alongside Donald Trump. However, the former president noted earlier this year that Melania is typically a private person who prefers to remain behind the scenes away from the chaos of the current political climate. Instead, the former first lady would rather focus on family matters about their son Baron, who is set to graduate high school soon.
He stated, “It’s funny, she was a very successful model, very, very successful, and yet she was a private person. She’s going to be out a lot. Not because she likes doing it, but she likes the results.” Trump continued, “She wants to see this country really succeed. She loves the country … Melania is a brilliant person. Her life revolves around Barron and the success of our country.”
“You know, a lot of first ladies would go out — they want to be everywhere. They get angry at their husband because he’s not introducing them.” The former president added, “If I didn’t introduce Melania, she’d be very happy about it. She’s just a different kind of a person.”
“Her life revolves around that boy. It’s so important to her.” He then said, “At the same time, it also revolves around our country and the success of our country. She’s raised a lot of money for charity. She’s a private person.” Trump emphasized that despite her aversion to making so many public appearances, Melania is more than willing to stand alongside her husband to support his efforts at winning the presidency. “And she loves the country. She’s going to be out a lot, but she does it for the good of the country, not for her. She’s somebody with a lot of confidence. She doesn’t need that.”
Donald and Melania were recently seen together at a wildly successful fundraiser that raised over $50 million for his campaign. Trump noted that people were eager to donate to his reelection effort because they are “wanting change” amid a country that is “really doing poorly.”
