Megyn Kelly and other high-profile conservative commentators, such as Dana Loesch, took to social media to praise “heroes” in the Nashville Police Department for their speedy and courageous response to the recent mass shooting at a Christian elementary school. Six were killed by the transgender shooter in a sickening attack that Sen. Josh Hawley called a hate crime because it seemed to target Christians/
Megyn Kelly, for example, tweeted “Thank God for the heroes at @MNPDNashville. Never ceases to amaze when you see courage like that on these tapes (of them taking out the shooter). Professionalism, bravery, respect for one another, honor.”

Many commenters agreed with her, saying things like, “That bodycam video is tough to watch, but they were tremendous in a horrific situation” and “I don’t think any of them were wearing body armor either. What a difference from Uvalde.”
Others took the opportunity to attack gun ownership, saying things like, “imagine if the shooter hadn’t had access to an assaults rifle how much safer it would have been for those heroes?”
Similarly, Dana Loesch said, in response to a post with the video of the officers bravely charging into the school and clearing it of the threat, “Uvalde officers cowardly blamed the weapon they ALSO had for their inability to act. Parkland’s Scott Israel sat on a CNN stage with me and blamed me and all of you for his failure follow tips and train his officers like these. MNPD were trained, brave, and acted.”

She posted a screenshot of that tweet on Instagram with the caption, “The video is graphic and I’m not sure Insta will allow it. It shows heroic MNPD officers responding in minutes to neutralize a threat. Heroes. We’ve always had guns. We’ve not always had mass killers. It’s not the gun, it’s the breakdown in society. I’ll talk about this further on air today. Hearts break for Nashville. People unserious about solutions won’t acknowledge that that some mental illness induces violence, evil is real, and leaving people defenseless isn’t a defense.”
Joining them was Outkick’s Clay Travis, who said, “Michael Collazo and Rex Englebert were the brave
@MNPDNashville police officers who arrived at the school, ran to gunfire, and killed the trans murderer before she could kill more innocent people. They are heroes. Share their story widely instead of the killer’s name.”
Also joining in was conservative country star John Rich, who said, “These two young @MNPDNashville officers are legitimate heroes for running straight at the murderer in Nashville yesterday. There’s no telling how many lives they saved. This is textbook precision on how to handle an active shooter, and we are grateful for their bravery.”
Further, Sara Gonzalez shared a video of the cops rushing into the school to fight off the shooter, saying “Nashville Police have released the bodycam footage and it cannot be stressed enough how remarkable this response was. These men are absolute heroes.”

And it wasn’t just the cops who were heroic. One of the children murdered by the trans shooter was killed while pulling the fire alarm to warn the others, as The Quartering pointed out, saying, “Hero schoolgirl, 9, who died trying to pull fire alarm to stop trans shooter opening fire on her friends. Remember Her.”
Collin Rugg tweeted something similar, saying, “This little girl tried saving her friends by pulling a fire alarm when she heard the Nashville shooter coming. She was shot and killed. Her name was Evelyn Dieckhaus. HERO.”

Here are the two officers:
MNPD Officers Rex Engelbert, a 4-year veteran, and Michael Collazo, a 9-year veteran, were part of a team of first responders to the Covenant campus Mon morning. They fired on the active shooter, who was killed. This is their body camera footage. https://t.co/17qsZM6bNp pic.twitter.com/g4b0nMTFRD
