When Megan Rapinoe finished her professional soccer career, suffering an Achilles injury early in the match on November 11, many believed that they had hopefully seen and heard the last from the often America-hating soccer player. However, that sadly isn’t proving to be the case as the attention-seeking activist made more controversial and blasphemous statements on a podcast recently.
The enigmatic soccer player spoke about the career-ending injury earlier this week and couldn’t help but take a few shots at her critics and Christians. On something called the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, Rapinoe talked about her injury. “It is sad. I wish that didn’t happen.” Being the nature of sports, some fans, right or wrong, will celebrate an injury. Rapinoe’s injury likely elicited a little more joy, especially among those who were tired of her off-the-field antics.
She continued: “I’m just thinking about my teammates coming over and – of course, it’s sad, but it’s also like – I don’t know, it’s kind of just like life. We want these perfect stories, and I’m like a controversial figure and having people lowkey celebrate it. But then also be so disingenuous about that that part is kinda funny too. I’m like, ‘Wow, you guys are in a special place in hell that you’re celebrating this.’”
Of course, based on previous comments, it is odd for Rapinoe to talk about hell, considering her comments about God and Christians. She said in the presser after the injury, “I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a god, like, this is proof that there isn’t. This is f—ed up. It’s just f—ed up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”
Naturally, she tried to maintain she was making a joke, but many folks didn’t see the humor. She continued on the podcast, “Somebody needs to check on the Christians. They’re not OK. They also missed the whole joke, but OK. Don’t act like A. you’re surprised by me making this joke about what happened or finding a dig. Who’s it at? God, myself, religion, the world? I don’t know. It’s just funny.”
Perhaps Rapinoe doesn’t have a sense of humor or just doesn’t like jokes at her expense. Either way, she has no issue taking digs at Christians and God. As narcissists do, she made the conversation about herself and her perceived persecution after insulting a very large portion of her audience. She continued, calling her injury a “tragically comedic ending.”
It perhaps was comedic to some folks, but you can’t blame them, considering some of the statements made over the years by one of the most annoying people in sports. Rapinoe circled back to herself, “It’s not funny, but also this is how I live my life. There are so many more important things than this. And, of course, it’s sad, I don’t think it takes anything away from my career.”

It is a career that many were glad to see fade into the sunset, injury or no injury. Rapinoe poisoned her legacy with misguided political stances and controversial takes, often seemingly intended to turn the spotlight on herself. She was good on the soccer field, but off of it, she will not be missed if she actually goes away.
