Matthew McConaughey took a step away from acting to rejuvenate and find a way to improve on his already illustrious acting career. Now, with a role in the “Yellowstone” universe on the horizon, McConaughey is excited to get back on camera and provide viewers with one of the most outstanding performances of his life. In an interview with Dax Shepherd on the “Armchair” podcast, McConaughey spoke about his most recent hiatus.
In a quote shared by Fox News, McConaughey talked about the newfound interest that he has in playing a role in a tv show or movie following a few years of self-imposed separation from the industry. He said:
“The last few years I had a really wonderful time getting rid of a lot of those filters that come with acting. I am now becoming more interested in actually going to play another character in a movie or TV show because all of the last four years of culminating and writing and getting these things together, and getting more into some public service, now that I’m starting to dispatch those and get them organized and put ‘em in front of me, it freed me up to go, ‘The idea of going to act in the right role and the right kind of movie, film, or series, right now, sounds like an awesome vacation.'”
According to rumblings from inside Paramount, McConaughey will be starring in a new spinoff series about the Yellowstone ranch as the studio looks to accompany “1883” and “1923” to show fans more of the history of the Dutton family. McConaughey said that this time away from acting with play a crucial role in his ability to turn in the best performance that he is capable of:
“None of this time, at all, has been in vain. I wouldn’t dare be arrogant enough to think any of it has. I’ll be a different or improved actor, in my own right, after this last three years. I deliberately chose to go focus on some things I was talking about. And I have different perspectives. … What I have is so much respect for the vocation of acting. I think I have a healthier relationship. I’m not looking at it for my survival and my ‘thrival.'”
“I think good acting emulates life. Real life’s where this stuff comes from. I think I’ve experienced some real good life in these last few years, in ways that I hadn’t in a while.”
Reports have been swirling all year that Paramount is considering cutting ties with “Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner amid on-set disputes. This uncertainty regarding the series’ lead was likely a driving factor in the studio’s choosing to bring McConaughey aboard for a spinoff. Now, with Costner’s team denying that there is any issue, fans may have the best of both worlds, both Costner and McConaughey acting in separate eras of the “Yellowstone” franchise.
