The man accused of two unprovoked stabbings at Grand Central Terminal in December cried out in court for his mother during his first court proceeding. 28-year-old Brooklyn native Jason Sargeant allegedly committed the slashings of innocent people on Christmas Eve. A Manhattan judge ordered him to be held on $150,000 bail.
While appearing in court, Sargeant noticed his mother was present. “Wait, mom, I didn’t know you were here! I didn’t know you were here!” he shouted frantically as court officers swarmed him. “Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!” he yelled as officers removed him from the courtroom. A day prior, Sargeant was allegedly screaming “f*** all these people” before attacking innocent bystanders in Grand Central Terminal’s southbound entrance.
The attacks perpetrated with a knife were described as “incredibly serious.” One victim was a 42-year-old man who was slashed across the wrist. “The victim was bleeding profusely on the scene,” an assistant district attorney explained in court proceedings. “He suffered a deep cut to his wrist, lost a significant amount of blood, requiring a tourniquet to be applied on the scene and was taken to Bellevue, where he remains for treatment.”
Sargeant’s episode continued when he ascended stairs and attacked a 26-year-old woman, punching her in the back of the head and stabbing her in the throat, prosecutors claim. “He first punched her in the face before then lunging at her with the knife, causing a small cut to her neck,” authorities said. The attack has sparked serious concerns about the safety of public transportation.
The 26-year-old victim, Imani-Ciara Pizarro, lamented that public safety has substantially deteriorated in New York City. “I wish I could be able to travel to my livelihood and not be attacked. I wish there were cops in Grand Central when I was attacked, there were none. I was running for help and there was no one there,” she said.
According to reports, Sargeant has a lengthy rap sheet, having three prior arrests for criminal mischief, fare beating, and assaulting a police officer. Sargeant was recently indicted in the state Supreme Court for attempted murder, assault, attempted assault, and criminal possession of a weapon. Reportedly, Sargeant has been homeless over the last year.
New York City has continually made headlines over the past several years for shocking acts of violence, particularly on its subway system. Late last year, a woman died after she was allegedly set on fire by an illegal immigrant on the New York City subway system. Subsequently, Tom Homan sounded off on the state over the incident.

“[Y]ou think about it, this illegal alien that burned this young lady alive, he probably had a free hotel room, three squares a day, … gets free medical attention, … but this young homeless person, she [doesn’t] have anything and she died a horrendous death,” he said. “So, I want Hochul, I want the mayor of Chicago, the governor, all these sanctuary cities that are speaking out against President Trump and myself running this deportation operation, I want you to watch that video and know how this young lady suffered…”
