Mamdani Vows to Defy Supreme Court to Defend Illegal Aliens

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani issued a blustering statement vowing to defy and oppose the Supreme Court and the Trump Administration to defend migrants, including illegal aliens and those who are having their Temporary Protected Status revoked, namely Syrians and Haitians, cementing New York City’s status as a sanctuary city.

Such is what his office announced, releasing a statement of his on the matter. Introducing the statement, his office said, “In response to the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the federal government to terminate legal protections for hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian immigrants in the United States, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani released the following statement.”

That then led into the statement itself, with Mamdani beginning by denouncing the Supreme Court for its ruling on the matter, saying, “The Supreme Court just sparked one of the largest attacks on immigrants in modern American history. In one fell swoop, thousands of Haitians and Syrians now risk losing the right to live and work in the country they call home.”

Continuing, he said the fact that people tried to use permanent status to build permanent lives means they need to be allowed to stay. He said, “These are people who fled earthquakes, famine, war and political violence. People who came to this country looking for freedom, safety and democracy.”

Adding to that, the infamous sanctuary city mayor known for opposing Tom Homan, President Trump, and others said, “They built lives here. They raised families here. They opened small businesses, attended church and mosque, looked after their neighbors. America is home.”

Then, noting that Haitians would be removed from New York City because of the ruling, something conservatives see as indubitably a good thing but he framed as being bad, NYC’s sanctuary city mayor declared, “This decision will cause enormous pain across the five boroughs. Here in New York, it falls hardest on our Haitian community, one of the largest in the country, alongside Syrian families.”

Vowing to protect those who should now be deported from the Trump Administration, the mayor then declared, “To the tens of thousands of New Yorkers with TPS who are watching the news, frightened about what comes next, hear me clearly: New York City is your home. You belong here. We will not turn our backs on you.”

Yet further, he said, commenting on the city mobilizing resources to protect the Haitians, he said, “The Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs will share additional information and resources soon. If you have questions about your status or need legal assistance, call the MOIA Immigration Legal Support Hotline at 800-354-0365. Free and confidential help is available.”

Finally concluding the statement, the mayor declared that he would continue to oppose the Trump Administration on behalf of the Haitians and the Syrians in the city. He said, “You will not face this cruelty alone. This administration will stand alongside immigrant New Yorkers today, tomorrow, and every day that follows.”
