Big news has come out of Amazon MGM Studios, as the industry giant has announced a deal with the filmmaker behind the hit movie “Jesus Revolution.” The Amazon-owned studio going all in on a faith-based filmmaker has been received as great news for fans of the genre who also have access to the streaming service that Amazon offers along with its shopping service.
Amazon’s partnership with Jon Erwin, co-director of “Jesus Revolution,” sparks a massive amount of excitement for faith-based media. Erwin, along with YouTube executive Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, brought their faith-based film venture “The Wonder Project” into a marriage with Amazon MGM Studios.
The series will be straight to order and available to watch immediately following its release. The show will be called “House of David,” telling the story of King Saul as he falls victim to the constant trials and temptations of the earthly world. In a compelling story, David is tasked with remaining in the good graces of King Saul as he also comes ever closer to taking the throne for himself.
Vernon Sanders is the head of television for Amazon MGM Studios, and he took some time to talk about the deal and to share his excitement for the upcoming partnership. In a quote shared by Deadline, he also spoke about how the passion of the team at “The Wonder Project” made him sure that this was the right deal.
Sanders said, “When we met with Jon, Kelly, and Dallas, their clear and passionate vision for The Wonder Project and their ambition to nurture universal stories of love, triumph, and spirituality moved us. We are very excited about the scope, scale and storytelling involved with House of David and look forward to sharing this epic and many others with our global Prime Video customers.”
Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten also offered a brief statement about the deal and her passion for working on faith-based films. She shared a hopeful outlook, brimming with optimism, at the potential collaborations between her team and Amazon Studio.
She said, “Our goal at The Wonder Project is to tell stories that restore faith in things worth believing in, and to do this at scale. We’ve been blown away by Amazon’s commitment to help us do this — both through the significant resources they are dedicating and their trust in us to tell these stories authentically to our audience.”
Lastly, Jon Erwin himself spoke about the upcoming project titled “House of David.” Erwin indicates that he plans for this deal to lead to an entire empire of movies and shows with thoughtful and entertaining stories that also keep the Bible as the central plot point.
With palpable excitement, Erwin said, “With House of David being the first project under this new deal, we’re setting the stage for a series of compelling, values-driven movies, and TV shows. This is a milestone for The WONDER Project, and we’re thrilled to be working with a company that understands and supports our mission and our audience in such a groundbreaking way.”
