Things in Texas are continuing to look up for the MAGA Movement, as it is looking increasingly likely that Texas AG Ken Paxton will be able to defeat incumbent Republican Texas Senator John Cornyn and win the primary election runoff vote in this May, thus seizing the primary slot for the Senate race and likely winning it, putting another MAGA Republican in power.
Particularly, Cornyn’s pro-amnesty ads and positions have resurfaced in a major way, leading to immense backlash against the RINO senator that will likely cause him yet further issues with voters and is giving him more bad press, particularly given Ken Paxton’s tough stance on the illegal immigration subject.
The video that caused such an uproar came from 2020, when the senator was trying to appeal to Hispanic voters for his re-election campaign, and ran a Spanish-language television spot ad titled “Tranquilo”, one that he also put up on his campaign’s YouTube channel.
In the ad, which consists of a Spanish-language voiceover performed in a female voice, the campaign explicitly tells watchers that Senator Cornyn “firmly supports the legalization of the ‘Dreamers’.” Then, immediately afterwards and in English, the senator says, “I’m John Cornyn, and I approve this message.” Cornyn comments on police reform in the ad as well.
Predictably, the Cornyn campaign tried to cover up the ad by setting it to private once it began garnering more notoriety. But that only led to more conservative, pro-MAGA accounts finding videos of him pushing much the same thing, such is one in which he explained on the Senate floor how he lobbied former President Barack Obama to push Congress to adopt Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), a notorious move that allowed in a great many young illegal aliens.
The Amuse X account, posting about that and slamming Cornyn, said, “John Cornyn begged Barack Obama to propose amnesty legislation for millions of illegals. Obama signed the Dreamer EO instead. Cornyn supported it. He has spent his career fighting Democrats to give illegals citizenship. Texas Republicans are being asked to send this man back to the Senate to keep working on it. Vote for Ken Paxton instead next month. Please.”

More recently, Cornyn has tried to move away from the amnesty position somewhat. He argued, defending a bill during the Biden Administration that would stop Biden from sneakily granting amnesty to about half a million illegal aliens, “For almost four years, the Biden-Harris administration has waived their magic amnesty wand to create unlawful programs that allow any and every person to enter and stay in the U.S. – legally or not.”
The senator then added, championing another visa program at the same time, “Our legislation would root out this massive pull factor while also preserving the integrity of our employment-based nonimmigrant visa program, and I’m grateful to my colleagues for their support.” Still, many see that as merely him blowing with the wind and pretending to accept a MAGA agenda so he can win elections, rather than his mind really changing and him becoming against amnesty.
