Senate Majority Leader John Thune, an unpopular RINO, revealed he spoke with President Trump today about Texas and is urging an endorsement for incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) in the 2026 Senate primary.
In his comments, Thune praised Cornyn as Texas’s “best hope” to keep the seat Republican, predicting Trump’s backing soon to help Cornyn win both the primary and general. He cited ex-NRSC aide Matt Whitlock’s prediction to support his claims. However, the viral clip sparked backlash from MAGA users, who called Thune a “RINO,” undermining the agenda, and demanded Paxton stay in the race.
In any case, Thune began his comments by saying, “I’ve spoken with the president already today about Texas, and I’m certainly hopeful. I think, as probably you know, Martha made no secret of the fact that I hope the president will endorse John Cornyn.”
“He is an incredibly effective senator for the state of Texas, a strong conservative voice here in the United States Senate, and represents, by far, our very best hope of making sure that Texas stays red in November, in that Senate election,” the RINO added.
Building on this point, the unpopular senator added, “So we’ll see ultimately, the President, you know, he makes his own decisions, but I’ve certainly weighed in many a time, many times, I should say, in support of Senator Cornyn and and I believe he is not only going to win the primary, but the general election in November.”
“Yeah, I was just watching Matt Whitlock, who used to do the Republican Senate Committee. He said he believes that an endorsement for Cornyn is coming from the President,” he claimed. The CNN journalist speaking with him asked, “You said you just spoke with him. Is it coming shortly that endorsement from the President?”
Thune responded, “Well, I’m not going to characterize the conversations I’ve had with the President, but I think it’s fair to say that he’s paying a lot of attention, and he knows full well, Megan, how important it is that we hold Texas in [the]Republican column, Republican hands.”

Concluding his comments, he said, “So I expect you’ll be hearing from him before too long. And I’m not certainly going to get ahead of that, but I’m just very hopeful that the endorsement will be for John Cornyn.”

Posting the controversial clip, conservative commentator Eric Daugherty reacted, “BREAKING: Senate Leader John Thune calls on President Trump to endorse John Cornyn for Texas US Senate. If Trump does this, he’d then be asking Paxton to DROP OUT of the GOP primary, letting Cornyn advance directly to November,” adding, “Thune seems confident Trump will make his announcement soon. He spoke with Trump TODAY on Texas.”
In the comments, users blasted Thune for his lack of effectiveness. “How about John Thune’s utterly useless RINO ass retires?” one user commented. “Thune & Cornyn are the two main reasons why the MAGA agenda is being undermined. If Trump actually endorses Cornyn, I’m going to be very disappointed,” another commented pointed out, for example.
Most of the comments were similarly negative regarding the RINOs. “If I were Trump I would tell Thune that he’s not endorsing anyone until the Save Act is passed,” said one. Another argued, “The people want Ken Paxton. Why would Trump take any advice from Thune?” Dozens of other comments called on Trump to cut loose both Cornyn and Thune over their constant betrayals of MAGA and the president.
