Following President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory in the election, conservatives on social media have been proposing ideas for how the incoming administration can make America great again. In light of the mandate that the American people have given Trump, some have thrown out suggestions of how the president can combat the pervasive problem of cancel culture.
One conservative user wrote on X, “Trump needs to appoint uncancel Czar! What products do you want back? Me: Aunt Jemima syrup!” The post received a variety of responses, some expressing complete agreement for such an idea. However, others pointed out that the proposal could be considered government overreach, contradicting conservative principles.
Another user commented under the post in agreement, “Agreed. I was joking with my son that Aunt Jemima will be coming back.” Others blasted political correctness for impacting some of their favorite consumer brands, arguing against the claims that they are racist. “And Uncle Ben and the Land O’ Lakes woman. They were part of our growing up. There was no racism….pure innocence. I still have Aunt Jemima in my Fridge even though it’s expired,” another person wrote.
However, some disagreed with the assertion that the federal government should have the power to tell private businesses how they should conduct their branding. One person commented, “So you want government to impose itself on Private companies? Thought you all wanted limited government interference?”
Echoing this sentiment, another person wrote, “That’s a power only a tyranny has. We do not want our government to have that much power. Just don’t buy syrup from “Pearl Milling Company” if you object. Don’t buy Ben’s Original. Don’t buy Land O Lakes. Don’t give any of your money to the NFL or the Washington “Commanders,”” one person wrote, pushing back on the post.
In other news regarding cancel culture and branding, The American Tribune reported on the classic Washington Redskins logo could be making a return several years after the D.C. football team changed its name to the “Commanders.” Senator Steve Daines (R-MT) recently indicated there are talks to bring back the iconic logo that resembled a Blackfeet tribe chief known as White Calf.
Speaking to Fox News, Daines said, “Now we were calling out leaders in a case of really woke gone wrong. The irony, they were canceling Native American culture as the DEI movement went way too far. Look, this is a this is honoring a Blackfeet chief who was born in Montana. He’s highly esteemed the Blackfeet tribe of Montana, their current chairman and the tribal council signed a letter in strong support to bring the local logo back.”
Daines dismissed arguments from the woke left that the logo was a racist caricature of a Native American, maintaining that it “honors Indian country.” The Montana Republican continued, “It honors Indian country. So we’ve had good discussions with the NFL and with the Commanders.” Furthermore, Daines explained there is legitimate consideration to revive the logo.
“There’s good faith negotiations going forward that’s going to allow this logo to be used again, perhaps revenues going the foundation to help Native Americans and sport and so forth, making good progress, and based on the good faith negotiations, I made decision support of this bill yesterday the committee, I know that they have put a plaque up in Northwest stadium honoring Wetzel, and the longer, it great to see you back on the helmets again,” Daines said.
