After a theatrical, hours-long filibuster against the Big Beautiful Bill failed to stop its passage, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), a controversial Democrat, was swamped with criticism from his GOP counterparts. One representative, Virginia Foxx, said Jeffries was a “Dollar Store Obama,” among other hilarious jibes.
For context, Hakeem Jeffries rambled for 8 hours and 44 minutes on July 3, 2025, in a futile attempt to stop Trump’s historic budget bill. Despite Jeffries’ marathon meltdown, which exploited an obscure congressional rule, Trump’s BBB was successfully passed to widespread applause.
In any case, Jeffries was widely mocked by Republicans, such as when Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) called him low energy. Others, such as Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO), who said the Republicans were better at using filibusters, saying, “Nah, we beat the Dems at that too.”
Slamming the self-important Democrat, Matt Gorman, president of the Targeted Victory public relations firm, joked, “The gap between how much charisma he has and how much he thinks he has could fill the Grand Canyon.”
Demolishing the New York representative, with a flurry of criticism, Rep. Andy Ogles (R-TN) compared Jeffries to an off-brand Barack Obama. Ogles said, “Dollar Store Obama has been hysterically rambling for over three and a half hours, whining about tax cuts for working Americans, bonuses for our brave law enforcement, and mass deportations of illegals. He’s still droning on like a broken record,” adding, “Not sure if his batteries are running low or if he’s just low-T, but someone needs to hand Discount Dollar Store Obama some caffeine ASAP.”
Piling on the stricken Democrat Rep. Brandon Gill (R-TX) slammed Jeffries in a July 9, 2025, post to social media. Gill said, “Hakeem Jeffries, virtue signals about civility, while simultaneously encouraging his party to spew the most vile, hateful rhetoric against our ICE agents. Assaults against ICE agents are up 700%.”
Explaining how violent rhetoric leads to attacks on ICE agents, the Texas Republican kept hammering away at Jeffries. He stated, “Meanwhile, multiple members of his own party have called ICE agents “the Gestapo,” compared them to Nazis and encouraged doxxing them. Jeffries himself even said that all ICE agents would be identified “no matter what it takes” because ‘this is not the 1930s.’ adding, “That’s “unhinged” rhetoric from a Minority Leader completely unfit for leadership. Hakeem Jeffries should be the one apologizing.”

In the comments under Gill’s post, conservatives blasted the cowardly Democrat. One such comment read,”@RepJeffries is the typical democratic dont do as I do, do what I say. He really is a disgrace! He was not voted in on his merit, he was voted in during the height of DEI.”
Refferencing a recent scandal when Jeffires was busted editing photos on social media to make him seem slimmer, another comment said, “Screw Hakeem and his party he is a fake as his photoshopped photos. You need to stiffen penalties of violence against Federal agents and raise the mandatory amount of years to serve. Even relax the use of force protocols to effect an arrest and against anyone who interferes with it.”
