Contrary to the lives of many in Hollywood and the rest of the entertainment industry, country music superstar Tim McGraw has stayed married to his wife Faith Hill for a wonderful 27 years. What’s more, he’s still head over heels in love, as a recent post of his about her showed.
Mr. McGraw and Mrs. Hill were married in 1996 after meeting for the first time in 1994. They then went on tour together in 1996 and, partway through the tour, Mr. McGraw proposed right before going on stage. Luckily for him, she said “yes,” and the two have been together for good ever since.
Describing that day they got engaged, Mr. McGraw revealed, “We were in the dressing room, here, June 26, 1996, and it was raining and stuff and we’d been on tour for a while together, and I joked around with her about getting married. And so I looked at her, grabbed her by the hands, and dropped forward [on my knees] onstage. She said, ‘We’re at a country music festival in a trailer house, and you’re asking me to marry you?’ And I said, ‘Yeah.’ So I went onstage … When I came back offstage, [I saw] a Sharpie with lipstick kisses all over it, saying, ‘Yes! I’m gonna be your wife.‘”
In any case, it was in a heartwarming post on Instagram for her 56th birthday, McGraw said (punctuation added), “Happy birthday to the love of my life, my partner and my best friend. You light up every room you walk into. And you light up my heart and soul I love you more than I could ever express in a million years. This is your day my love!!!!♥️😘 @faithhill”
Mr. McGraw also credits his wonderful wife with being the reason he has managed to stay sober for fifteen years. Speaking about the matter, he said, “I guarantee you, had I not gotten married to Faith at 29 years old: A, I probably would’ve ran my career into the ground, and B, I would’ve died already with my career into the ground, one or the other, and it wouldn’t have ever been where it’s at now.”
In another interview, he indicated that she is the one who pressed him to get sober in the first place, saying, “When things happen and you succeed beyond your wildest dreams and you’re playing all these great shows and the parties are going on. Then you’re married and you have kids. And all of a sudden your wife looks at you and says, ‘You know, you’re getting a little overboard and you need to make some decisions.’ It makes a big impact on you.”
He also talked about how the two’s idea of a romantic night has changed now that their three kids are out of the house and they are empty nesters, saying, “We’ll cook a big dinner at home and light candles all over and turn ’80s music on. We try to have those often.”
And while McGraw gushes over Hill, she does just the same thing about him. For example, when his latest album came out in August, she said, “Still after all this time and so many albums. You never cease to amaze me. You are an absolute master of your art. In every way. Congratulations!!!!!! My love. We are so proud of you.”
