In yet more bad news for left-leaning cable news in the wake of the November 5 election, a turning point of sorts that saw dramatic slashes to viewing numbers for leftist news channels like CNN and MSNBC, CNN has announced that yet another one of its high-profile anchors is out amidst the massive ratings downturn.
That host is Alisyn Camerota. She, in addition to having hosted CNN’s mid-afternoon “Newsroom” program since April of 2021, was a “CNN Tonight” host from 2022 to 2023. Those roles came in addition to other cable news jobs that had put her at a CNN anchor desk of one sort or another for about a decade, so this end of Newsroom marks a large change for her.
Camerota’s announcement about leaving to her audience came on Sunday, December 8. Commenting then on her departure, which was to take effect that day, she said, “Before we go on this very busy news day, I just want to take a moment to share some personal news. This is my last day on air at CNN. I’ve had such incredible opportunities here these past ten-plus years.”
Continuing, Camerota commented on what she described as her “peak career” moments, telling the audience, “I’ve interviewed presidents and heroes and extraordinary people. The kind of peak career experiences that I had dreamed of since I was a teenager. The journalists at CNN are the very best in the entire news business.”
Further, she said, speaking about what it meant to have been involved in reporting on so many interesting moments, “And it’s been an honor to have been their colleague. It’s also an honor to have been in your homes this past decade through some of the biggest stories of our lifetimes. I’m always touched when a viewer comes up and tells me that I helped them get through these challenging times.”
Getting to her conclusion, she hinted that she has more planned activities in the pipeline, as she gets ready for what will follow her CNN career, saying, “So I look forward to doing much more of that with you. Please follow me on Instagram @Alisyn Camerota for updates on where to find me in the very near future.”
Then, concluding, she thanking her colleagues at the flailing network, saying, “And to my dear friends at CNN, thank you for all of the laughs that we’ve shared, all you’ve taught me about the power of journalism. And for making my time here so deeply rewarding. I wish you all a peaceful holiday season. I’ll see you all soon.”
Commenting online on Monday, the day after her big announcement, she said, “I’m onto new horizons. I’ll just share this bit of wisdom. New Horizons are great when you’re ready for them. There have been times in my life when I was not ready to leave a place that I love, and it was really sad and really hard, but I think I am ready to leave this place that I love now.”
