Following Elon Musk’s decision to try and make Twitter at least a touch more free and open to the idea of freedom of speech rather than being a tool of the woke censorship regime, CBS left in a huff, saying that it was pausing its activity on the platform “out of an abundance of caution.”

CBS News reporter Jonathan Vigliotti announced that decision on air, saying:
“In light of the uncertainty around Twitter and out of an abundance of caution, CBS News is pausing its activity on the social media site as it continues to monitor the platform.”
Similarly, the CBS team on Twitter said “After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation.”
CBS was immediately and hilariously derided for the decision, on Twitter, of course, with various public figures and talking heads mocking the decision.
Actor James Woods, one of the more well-known conservative actors and an excellent Twitter troll, tweeted, “You’ll be missed. You and the bubonic plague.”
YouTuber and pundit Tim Pool joined in as well, summing things up quite well and tweeting, “The tantrum is epic.”
Well, CBS apparently realized shortly afterward that leaving one of the bigger social media platforms in a huff over the idea that it might adopt a more pro-freedom of speech stance is something other than the best decision, and so it came crawling back to Twitter less than 48 hours later.
The CBS Twitter team posted about that decision on Sunday morning, saying:
“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation.”
And so a second round of humiliating mockery was poured on Twitter. Jordan Peterson, who was recently allowed back on by Elon Musk, posted:
“After pausing for much of the weekend to assess the security concerns, CBS News and Stations is resuming its activity on Twitter as we continue to monitor the situation.”
Similarly, Glenn Greenwald posted:
“CBS News has decided it’s once again safe to use Twitter – but only for the moment! They are continuing to ‘assess security concerns’ and ‘monitor the situation.’ If there are more outbreaks of free speech or hearing from people journalists dislike, they may retreat again.”
And taking things to a way deeper level, journalist Siraj Hashmi posted:
“CBS News had no issue with the sharing of child sexual abuse materials on Twitter, yet “paused” posting on this website for 21 hours over “security concerns” (i.e. Elon Musk’s “Trump reinstatement” poll).”
So CBS is back on Twitter, back to being mocked by the people it probably wishes were censored.
