Elon Musk recently suggested an innovative idea to make Twitter profitable and keep people invested in posting on the platform: making people pay about $8 a month for the blue checkmark that signals the account is really that account (i.e. that the Donald Trump Jr. account is actually Don. Jr.’s, not just some troll pretending to be him).
Posting about the $8 a month idea, Elon said:
Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit.
Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.
Price adjusted by country proportionate to purchasing power parity
You will also get:
– Priority in replies, mentions & search, which is essential to defeat spam/scam
– Ability to post long video & audio
– Half as many ads
And paywall bypass for publishers willing to work with us
This will also give Twitter a revenue stream to reward content creators

AOC, predictably, used the idea as an excuse to start whining, saying:
Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that “free speech” is actually a $8/mo subscription plan
Elon responded hilariously and dismissively, saying “Your feedback is appreciated, now pay $8“. LOL
Mocking her later on, Elon shared a screenshot of a sweater her campaign is selling for $58, enough for 6 months of the blue checkmark:

AOC got angry about that too, responding by saying “Proud of this and always will be. My workers are union, make a living wage, have full healthcare, and aren’t subject to racist treatment in their workplaces. Items are made in USA.”
She then went on to accuse Musk of “union busting.”
And, showing how triggered she was, AOC commented on that post and went on yet another rant about how wonderful she is for selling nearly $60 sweatshirts, saying:
Not to mention all proceeds go to community organizing like our Homework Helpers program which gives private tutoring to kids who’ve needed learning support since COVID: Check out our shop!
But then her account conveniently “stopped working,” or so she said: “Also my Twitter mentions/notifications conveniently aren’t working tonight, so I was informed via text that I seem to have gotten under a certain billionaire’s skin.”
Adding to that, she also said “Just a reminder that money will never by your way out of insecurity, folks.” Whatever that means, I’m sure she thought it was a good point.
Elon also posted this funny meme as the spat between him and the pearl-clutchers wore on:

And this very funny soyjack meme:

So Elon got the best of that argument. And, in so doing, he showed that Twitter is back and better than ever: now it’s once again a place where politicians like AOC can be hilariously mocked and humiliated when they attempt to strut around and virtue signal or clutch their pearls. Imagine how great it’ll be after Elon starts tinkering with the code and makes things back to how they used to be…it’s gonna be epic.
