There are numerous milestones in life. Turning 18, getting married, graduating high school or college, many folks measure their life by the moments they share with family and friends. For some people, celebrating life during their senior years involves family, friends, and whatever helps keep them young and vibrant. Whether it be whisky, cigars, exercise, bacon, or whatever gets people from one birthday to the next, folks will lean on what they know.
Recently, in Ohio, a certain senior citizen celebrated a most unlikely birthday with a most unlikely beverage to celebrate more than a century on this planet. Florence Hackman, a resident of Loveland, Ohio, celebrated her 105th birthday with her favorite sweet, cinnamon liquor. Hackman, better known as Flo to her friends and family, lives at Traditions of Deerfield assisted living facility and incorporates her favorite beverage into her daily routine.
Flo loves Fireball cinnamon whisky and manages to have a taste every day. The syrupy, sweet libation is a favorite amongst many Americans seeking a cheap buzz, and for Florence, it might actually be the secret to her longevity. Barring that, at the very least, it makes her happy, and that is vitally important at her age. For her birthday, Fireball had a special surprise for Flo.
For Florence’s birthday party, Fireball provided refreshments to the tune of 105 shots to match the birthday girl’s age. Flo, surrounded by 50 of her closest friends, celebrated her landmark birthday with Fireball shots and her favorite team, the Cincinnati Bengals. The birthday girl was born on December 16, 1918, in southwest Ohio and adopted the Bengals as her favorite team. Watching them defeat the Minnesota Vikings 27-24 on her birthday while enjoying her favorite cinnamon whisky was an amazing birthday gift for the 105-year-old.
This isn’t the first big party for Hackman. Last Halloween, the senior celebrated her 104th birthday and dressed as Queen Elizabeth for Halloween. The party-animal senior previously worked in the insurance industry for Union Central Life, which is now Ameritas Life Insurance Corporation. However, cashing in on that life insurance policy isn’t in her immediate plans.
Flo was “totally shocked” by the surprise and “thrilled to see it.” She also clearly needs the whisky as a Cincinnati Bengals fan. The Bengals have struggled mightily this season, and the game on her birthday featured an overtime win from the home team that wasn’t for the faint of heart. At least not without help from Fireball, that is.
Flo watched the game wearing her favorite Bengals jersey and sipping her favorite beverage while surrounded by her 50 best friends. Older folks need a reason to wake up every morning, and for Florence, a little whisky and some Bengals football is what she needs to get her through the day. Obviously, drinking whisky daily isn’t necessarily a recipe for success, but for Flo, it has become a part of her daily regimen. Is it recommended? Probably not, but who can argue with 105 years on this Earth? Certainly not Florence Hackman, and certainly not the Fireball company. Her endorsement is the best advertisement ever, and for Fireball and the Cincinnati Bengals, the hope is Florence is around to celebrate 106.
