Democrat Denver Mayor Mike Johnston recently stated that his city is close to reaching its breaking point amid the unprecedented inflow of migrants. According to Johnston, the growing number of economic migrants is straining Denver’s infrastructure as they struggle to provide necessary accommodations for the influx of people.
In recent years, illegal immigration has skyrocketed under President Biden’s leadership, where reports indicate that nearly 6.5 million people have crossed the border. However, this figure does not encompass the 1.7 million known “gotaways” documented by U.S. Customs and Border Patrol.
As a result, many migrants are flocking to sanctuary cities throughout the American interior, where these Democrat-run cities are struggling to provide the necessary resources for masses of people. Additionally, border states such as Texas have also enacted initiatives to redistribute these migrants to sanctuary cities that purportedly welcome illegal immigrants.
In Denver, Mayor Johnston illustrated the housing crisis they are experiencing as they struggle to house the migrants showing up in the city. According to data provided by the city, Denver has nearly 40,000 migrants as of early February.
“We have filled every single hotel room that we have available in the city and county of Denver,” he said. “Now we have the terrible decision that if we don’t start exiting folks, we will have 250 folks that will arrive today or the day after who don’t have anywhere to go at night.”
Massachusetts’ Democratic Gov. Maura Healey echoed similar sentiment that her state has reached its maximum capacity for migrants, as illegal immigrants are finding themselves sleeping on the floor of Logan Airport in Boston.
“The bottom line here is that we really are reaching, have reached capacity,” Healey said. “I just continue to express in the strongest terms possible, that’s why we need action at the federal government. This is not a problem that Massachusetts created. However, it’s a problem that we’re having to deal with right now,” she continued.
One of the most vocal Democrats on the border crisis and its impact on American cities is New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Adams has illustrated how the mass influx of illegal immigrants into the Big Apple has brought the city to its knees, where the mayor even suggested it would “destroy” New York City and impact all its residents.
“Let me tell you something, New Yorkers. Never in my life have I had a problem that I did not see an ending to. I don’t see an ending to this. I don’t see an ending to this. This issue will destroy New York City. Destroy New York City,” he said. “And everyone is saying, ‘It’s New York City’s problem.’ Every community in this city is going to be impacted. We have a $12 billion deficit that we’re going to have to cut every service in this city is going to be impacted. All of us,” he added, highlighting the potential impact on residents.
Republicans have hammered the Biden administration on the border crisis, making it a focal point of criticism. “President Biden has now resorted to threatening the American people with an even worse border crisis. The President already has the tools and authority he needs to close the border. This crisis is intentional,” Texas Rep. Austin Pluger recently tweeted.
