Letitia James Freaks Out in Another Desperate Bid to Escape Justice, Have Her Fraud Charges Thrown Out

Attorneys representing New York Attorney General Letitia James seem to lack an understanding of the term “irony” as they filed a motion to toss out the mortgage fraud case brought against her by the Trump administration, calling it politically motivated prosecution. What makes it ironic is that James brought the exact same charges against President Donald Trump after running on campaign promises to go after him if she should be elected as attorney general. This, of course, means that her charges against then-presidential candidate Trump were, themselves, politically motivated.

“The government targeted AG James for prosecution because of the President’s genuine animus towards her protected campaign speech and fulfillment of her statutory obligations as New York Attorney General,” the motion brought by her law says in its opening paragraph, going on to add: “This indictment is the product of vindictive and selective prosecution, in violation of the Fifth Amendment.”

Included in the filing are a series of comments made by the president James’ attorneys say proves that the prosecution of James is being driven by a vendetta for her lawsuit against Trump and his companies. Again, the irony of the request is so thick on this motion it’s laughable.

According to Breitbart, the filing then says, “This lawsuit, and AG James’ outspoken criticism of the President, triggered six years of targeted attacks. President Trump and his allies have used every insulting term in their vocabulary to deride AG James and call for criminal penalties in retaliation for the exercise of her rights and fulfillment of her statutory duties to fulfill her obligations as New York state’s attorney general.”

The document also lists several pejorative terms President Trump used to describe the attorney general such as “crooked,” “scum,” “monster,” and “criminal.” James’ campaign promise to go after Trump is also acknowledged in the motion, however, as a means to sugar coat or gloss over the fiery contempt in her statements, James’ legal team highlighted the tamer comments she made during her 2018 campaign.

“AG James’ campaign highlighted her intention to hold the powerful accountable for breaking the law — including President Trump, who was facing investigations, lawsuits, and other serious allegations of wrongdoing. And she did not hold back on her criticisms of the President and his actions during his first term. During her victory speech, she stated, ‘[Trump] should know that we here in New York — and I, in particular — we are not scared of you,’ and ‘as the next attorney general of his home state, I will be shining a bright light into every dark corner of his real estate dealings, demanding truthfulness at every turn,'” the document said.

The Justice Department is accusing James of making false or deceptive statements on mortgage papers to get favorable loan terms when purchasing a home in Norfolk, Virginia. The attorney general pled not guilty to all charges. James filed her lawsuit against then-candidate Trump in 2022, dragging his three oldest children and companies into the case as well.

James accused the Trumps of overvaluing his properties in order to be approved for loans, despite the fact no damages were ever cited by lenders who vetted and then approved the applications. An absurd judgment was slapped on Trump by a New York civil court that ordered he pay $350 million in damages, a total that exploded to $500 million with interest.

An appeals court later overturned the ridiculous and obscenely high judgment, however’ they did not overturn the fraud charge. Both parties are appealing the case. If the charges against James stick, and leftists judges aren’t able to somehow get the case tossed, her trial is scheduled to take place early next year.
