In a significant development in a case that has gripped the nation, conservative watchdog CASA filed a New York bar complaint against AG Letitia James, alleging “illegal and dishonest conduct” for claiming a 2023 Norfolk, Virginia, property as her principal residence while serving in New York. According to critics, this move potentially violates ethics rules on fraud and honesty, and CASA is seeking an investigation and possible discipline.
For context, just days earlier, a federal judge dismissed, without prejudice, bank-fraud charges against James, as well as separate charges against James Comey, ruling that the prosecutor, Lindsey Halligan, was improperly appointed. In reaction, the Trump DOJ plans to appeal the dismissal. James maintains the issue was an innocent, corrected form error.
Starting off their statement, CASA blasted Letitia James’s “illegal and dishonest conduct,” saying, “Fraud, misrepresentation, honesty and trustworthiness are all factors that the Rules of Professional Conduct expressly consider when weighing whether to discipline an attorney.”
Likewise, Curtis Schube, the CASA director of research and policy, laid out the case in detail.”The Committee, therefore, should immediately investigate the allegations against James and, if by ‘preponderance of the evidence’ the allegations are substantiated, she should be disciplined accordingly,” he said.
In the wake of an activist judge throwing out the mortgage fraud case against AG James, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “We believe the attorney in this case, Lindsey Halligan, is not only extremely qualified for this position, but she was in fact legally appointed… And I know the Department of Justice will be appealing this in very short order.”
Abbe Lowell, James’s lawyer, wrote an entitled message to AG Pam Bondi after her indictment. “The stunning hypocrisy of President Trump’s complaint that the Justice Department had been ‘politicized’ and ‘weaponized’ against him is laid bare as he and others in his Administration are now asking you to undertake the very same practice,” he wrote.
Doubling down on his feeble defence, Lowell claimed, “As I have set forth, the exhibits Director Pulte included with his letter are notable for the fact that he omitted numerous other records (some of which we have included) which refute the allegations of impropriety, and make clear that a mistake on one line had no significance.”

Concluding his biased defence, the lawyer whined, “If there is anything that you believe I have not addressed in the real facts and documents provided, please let me know. Otherwise, we would expect a quick response confirming that this referral matter has been closed by the Department.”
However, forensic accountant Sam E. Antar also has a different take. “August 2, 2023: James emails her mortgage broker: ‘This property WILL NOT be my primary residence.’ August 17, 2023: James signs sworn declaration stating it WILL be her ‘principal residence.’ 15 days apart. Both in writing,” he posted to social media.
When the news hit social media, conservatives were irate. “Letitia James spent years screaming ‘NO ONE IS ABOVE THE LAW’… Now… suddenly it’s ‘outrageous government conduct.’ The hypocrisy is radioactive,” one popular post noted.
Urging intense action, another comment read, “@AGPamBondi you should have already had your appeal written and ready to submit. These Democrat judges will burn down the country if YOU let them. Please be prepared and be steps ahead so we can stop them before too much damage is done! 🇺🇸”
