Devout Catholic and Kansas City Chiefs Kicker Harrison Butker recently endured a knee injury that has kept him out of play for several weeks. Subsequently, leftist opponents of Butker have cheered in light of his misfortune after his outspoken commitment to representing the Christian faith. Earlier this year, Butker sparked backlash from liberals when he spoke at the Benedictine College commencement ceremony where he promoted traditional gender roles.
There were many comments on social media celebrating Butker’s injury, as if he deserved it for standing firm in his conservative, Catholic values. “Karma,” one person wrote, mocking Butker. Voicing their disdain for the Chiefs kicker, another person said, “I hope his leg falls off. Not kidding at all.” Calling out this sentiment, another person commented, “Yeah because celebrating people’s misfortune will move us forward and more together.”
“It looks like women are done playing nice. Misogynist MAGA fascist Harrison Butker blew out his knee and women on TikTok are celebrating. 😳👇” one person wrote on X while sharing a clip of someone reactintg to the news, clapping their hands and shouting for joy in a way that mocks Christian worship. Defending Butker, another person wrote, “People on the left wishing physical harm on other Americans. That’s ok. Harrison is a multimillionaire for kicking a ball and won’t miss a single check this season.”
Contrasting the hoard of criticism from the left, one user chimed in, “And here come the thousand comments on why Harrison Butker is the worst person in the NFL for stating what was common sense to everyone on Earth until 100 years ago. Something everyone actually still believes but simply won’t admit. This is why Trump won. The delusional mania.”
While speaking at Benedictine College earlier this year, Butker specifically addressed women in the audience, calling them to embrace tradition. The professional kicker argued that women will find far more joy in motherhood and homemaking than pursuing a career during their prime years. “How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career?” he asked.
Butker continued, “Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world, but I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. I can tell you that my beautiful wife, Isabelle, would be the first to say that her life truly started when she began living her vocation as a wife and as a mother. I’m on the stage today and able to be the man I am because I have a wife who leans into her vocation. I’m beyond blessed with the many talents God has given me, but it cannot be overstated that all of my success is made possible because a girl I met in band class back in middle school would convert to the faith, become my wife, and embrace one of the most important titles of all: homemaker.”
