NBC News has a new host for “Meet the Press,” a long-time television journalist named Kristen Welker. Ms. Welker’s first broadcast of her newly taken-over show will be with the man sure to get ratings and set the internet alight, and thus boost popularity of her show: former President Donald Trump.
Predictably, the woke left was far more outraged that NBC and Welker would dare let Trump speak than glad that they have the opportunity to interview him and ask him tough questions, with the comments on X (formerly Twitter) full of wokies complaining about the network giving Trump a “platform.”
The charge was led by none other than extremely woke radio host Dean Obeidallah, who said, “‘Kristen Welker to Interview Trump For Meet the Press Launch.’ Nothing like kicking off your new political show with a man who attempted a coup and incited the Jan 6 attack. It’s as if corporate media wants FASCISM. Plus she will lose liberals forever.”
He was quickly joined by other, equally hysteric leftists. One quote tweet of his post, for example, said, “Meet the Press is over, done, finished, finito. Having trump on for a softball interview and trying to normalize him as if he isn’t the most heinous criminal traitor in the history of the United States. What’s next, NBC? Gonna hold a “town hall” for him too? #BoycottMeetThePress”
Another infuriated quote tweeter snapped, “#BoycottMeetThePress Don’t even hate watch it. There will be plenty of posted clips of the Trump BS but Kristen Welker does not deserve the ratings.”
Others compared him to Hitler, saying things like, “Disgusting. Hitler was ‘fired up about a lot of issues and leaning into his deal-making status’ too, Kristen Welker. #BoycottMeetThePress” and “It’s almost as if Kristen doesn’t realize that this man has been indicted x4 & the evidence is very clear that he incited a riot on the Capitol which lead to deaths & serious injuries. He should not be given free air time.“

Another said Trump shouldn’t be given air time because he’s a “rapist,” despite his having been found not guilty of rape in the Jean Carroll case. In any case, that deranged commenter said, “Stop giving Trump a National Soapbox. Boycott NBC’s Meet The Press.l CNN FAFO & now has the worst ratings, don’t go there NBC we are sick of this shit. Trump is a rapist with 91 felony indictments for insurrection, election fraud, conspiracy; PLEASE SHARE #BoycottMeetThePress”
Similarly, another snapped, “NBC is hosting Donald Trump for a pre-recorded interview set to air this Sunday. This comes after Trump raped a woman in a department store & after he was arrested 4 times. I thought NBC was better than CNN, but I guess was wrong. They both prioritize ratings over Democracy.”
“Executive Producer David P. Gelles, commenting on the matter, said, “We are in the business of covering politics. It’s not our job to pick and choose the leaders. The American people get to do that. And so our job is to make sure that the American people understand who the people in power are, what they stand for, and what they plan to do.”
