NBC is in significant trouble after publishing a piece that falsely implied the current Secretary of Defence, Pete Hegseth, was physically abusive to his ex-wife. Not only did Samantha Hegseth, the secretary’s second wife, deny the allegations, but many conservative commentators took to social media to explore how NBC may be criminally liable for this lie.
For context, Courtney Kube published a piece on NBC that falsely reported that Pete Hegseth was physically abusive towards his second wife. This narrative was picked up by liberal activists and Democratic politicians alike and is often used to smear Hegseth.
Such was shown when Samantha Hegseth wrote a statement to smash this contrived narrative. She wrote, “First and foremost, I have not and will not comment on my marriage to Pete Hegseth. I do not have representatives speaking on my behalf, nor have I ever asked anyone to share or speak about the details of my marriage on my behalf, whether it be a reporter, a committee member, a transition team member, etc.”
Building on that point, she unoquically denied being abused. She added, “I do not believe your information to be accurate, and I have cc’d my lawyer. There was no physical abuse in my marriage. This is the only further statement I will make to you. I have let you know that I am not speaking and will not speak on my marriage to Pete. Please respect this decision.”
In response, conservative commentators pounced on NBC for their libelous article. Arthur Schwartz posted, “Amazing but unsurprising news: Courtney Kube, one of the NBC News ‘reporters’ behind the recent hit pieces on Pete Hegseth, is the subject of a complaint at NBC accusing her of making false claims of sexism & misogyny.”
Another comment directly addressed NBC’s legal liability. The post read, “It’s a really bad day for @ckubeNBC and @NBCNews as they now grapple with the fact that #CourtneyKube knowingly ran a false story nationally after being provided direct comment and facts from the very person the story was about. The liability for her and #NBC will be significant.”
Donald Trump Jr. blasted the cowardly journalist who wrote the piece. He wrote, “After it was revealed that the reporter behind the Hegseth hit pieces is the subject of a complaint accusing her of making phony accusations of sexism & misogyny she did what all leftists do — she went into hiding and denial.”

In the comments under that post, conservatives flocked to defend Hegseth. One of the comments read, “Women like these that make an outrageous accusation should be jailed. They can’t just scream “assault” and not assume the consequences, especially if it’s not true. Sk*nks like these will always try to destroy strong men like Pete.” Another comment added, “@DonaldJTrumpJr Typical liberal playbook: when exposed for their own hypocrisy, they hide and deny. Can’t handle the truth coming back at them. Keep shining a light on these fake journalists, Don!”
Agreeing with other users, one of the comments read, “Does @ckubeNBC not stand by her reporting. Apparently not, apparently she is happy just to be the front man peddling crap like this in a lame effort to torpedo the Hegseth nomination. Pathetic. These lies will outlive her career.”
