Vice President Kamala Harris appeared for an interview on CNN on Monday, January 22, 2024, during which she spoke with CNN’s Laura Coates about everything from Trump to abortion as Coates fawned over her. Problem was, the interview went mostly unwatched, bringing in an abysmally small audience, particularly among younger Americans.
In fact, the softball question-filled interview with the cackling Vice President and far-left host didn’t even manage to bring in an average of 100,000 viewers in the 25-54 demographic that advertisers prioritize, and the total average number of viewers was well under half of a million.
News on that comes from AdWeek, which reports that the primetime program brought in only 72,000 average viewers in the 25-54 demographic, well under the CNN average for the night of 110,000 and far less than Fox News Channel’s 354,000 25-54 average for the night. The total audience was equally abysmal, totaling only 332,000 on average. That was significantly less than the CNN average for the night of 559,000 total viewers and lightyears away from FNC’s 2.637 million average viewers for the night.
During the interview, Kamala attacked Trump for his stance on Roe v. Wade and appointing the Supreme Court that did away with it, telling Coates, “By inference, he [Trump] is proud that women have been deprived of fundamental freedoms to make decisions about their own body; by inference, proud that doctors are being penalized and criminalized for providing health care, proud that women are silently suffering because they don’t have access to the health care they need. So, let’s understand that the stakes are so very high.”
For reference, Trump said that he was “proud” of his role in overturning Roe, but that he supports certain exceptions from abortion bans. Speaking on that, he said, “Nobody has done more in that regard. (But) I happen to be for the exceptions like Ronald Reagan, with the life of the mother, rape, incest. I just have to be there, I feel.”
In any case, Kamala also made sure to go on about “our democracy” during her CNN interview, saying, “I think everyone is right to be vigilant in demanding that we maintain our democracy. And we uphold its pillars, which includes the integrity of a free and fair election system.” She added, “It is important that we all remember that a hallmark of a democracy is civic participation. Which means let’s all vote – I’m not telling you who to vote for, but please, in the midst of all that you’ve got going on, take the time to fill out a ballot if you can vote by mail and send it in.”
VP Harris also blamed criticism of her on misogyny, saying, “I think that most women who have risen in their profession, who are leaders in their profession, have had similar experiences. I was the first woman to be elected district attorney. I was the first woman to be elected attorney general in the state of California, and I’m the first woman to be vice president. And I love my job.”
Predictably, Coates fawned over VP Harris rather than asking tough questions of her, saying, “I’m struck just being in your presence. I was watching you on stage. Looking at you in the eye with your passion.” Watch that fawning here:
