During a speech on the campaign trail, Vice President Kamala Harris was seemingly left in a “panic” over an apparent issue with a teleprompter while speaking to a crowd of supporters. Conservative critics have called out prominent Democratic figures, such as Harris, who are seemingly unable to talk about off-script without the aid of a teleprompter. In contrast, President-elect Donald Trump is known for his impressive ability to speak off the cuff for hours on end.
As Harris appeared to address a heckler in the crowd, some speculated the teleprompter operator saw this as a cue to stop and allow the vice president to speak off-script. “It says…You know what? Let me say something about this,” Harris said. “We’re here because we’re fighting for a democracy, fighting for
a democracy.
“And understand the difference here. Understand the difference here,” she added. However, Kamala then changed her tone and appeared to gesture toward someone off-camera, repeatedly saying, “moving forward” as if to get the teleprompter going again.
“Moving forward…moving forward, understand the difference here.” Continuing her speech and touting her rhetoric around abortion rights, Harris said, “What we are looking at is a difference in this election. Let’s move forward and see where we are, because on the issue, for example, a freedom of choice.” However, Harris was interrupted yet again by hecklers, causing her to pause her commentary.
Users on social media reacted to the incident, where author Tim Murtaugh wrote, “What happened here was the teleprompter operator thought she was going off script to deal with a heckler, and then she was saying “moving forward” over and over to get them to roll the script ahead.” He added, “She was lost and in panic. You can see it.”
Other users reacted to the clip as well. “Yeah. She’s looking right at the teleprompter and does the hand signal to roll it forward,” one person said. “This is what she does. How could she ever handle an international crisis?” another user asked rhetorically.
The American Tribune recently reported on post-election news regarding Kamala Harris, where recent polls indicate that the vice president is still the favored candidate for the Democratic Party in 2028 despite her landslide loss to Donald Trump in the election. According to a recent poll, approximately 41 percent of likely Democratic voters want Harris to be the Democratic candidate in the next election.

Following the results of the election, Harris said, “The outcome of this election is not what we wanted, not what we fought for, but hear me when I say: the light of America’s promise will always burn bright.” She added, “We must accept the results of this election. Earlier today, I spoke with President Trump and congratulated him on his victory. I told him that we will help him and his team with that transition, and we will engage in a peaceful transfer of power.”
She added, “I will never give up the fight for a future where women have the freedom to make decisions of their own body, and not have their government telling them what to do. We will never give up the fight to protect our schools and our streets from gun violence. We will never give up the fight for rule of law, equal justice, and for the sacred idea that every one of us, no matter who we are or where we start out, has certain fundamental rights and freedoms that must be respected and upheld.”
