Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro came out throwing haymakers like his name was Mike Tyson against former Vice President Kamala Harris, who many believe will be tossing her hat in the ring for the Democratic Party presidential nomination in 2028, accusing her of spewing forth “blatant lies” in her memoir 107 Days. Shapiro said that Harris is just trying to “sell books and cover her a**.”
Shapiro, who is usually calm as a cucumber and seemingly unflappable, became visibly annoyed during an interview when he was told the failed Democratic presidential nominee was throwing darts at him in her new book. The new battle between the two reveals a deep fissure that exists within the Democratic Party following a disastrous 2024 election cycle.
In her new book, Harris says that Shapiro acted as if he were packing up his belongings and ready to move into the vice-presidential residence while she was vetting him and others to be her running mate after she replaced an ousted former President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party nominee. Harris then claims she had to remind Shapiro that if he should be selected, he would be the vice president, not “co-president.”
According to Trending Politics News, Shapiro shot down the claims right off the bat. “That’s complete and utter bullsh*t,” he fired off after hearing the former vice president’s description of him talking about artwork selections. And he was far from done venting. “I can tell you that her accounts are just blatant lies.”
Following the interview with Tim Alberta of The Atlantic, Shapiro’s reaction was described as being “uncharacteristic.” The Pennsylvania governor has a well-earned reputation for being calm under pressure and being composed when receiving criticism. However, the excerpts from Harris’s book got under his skin.
Shapiro has had his fair share of criticism for Harris’s handling of her 2024 presidential campaign, and, like many other Democrats, buried his head in the sand when it came to the obvious cognitive decline of former President Joe Biden, believed that the failed Democrat nominee was twisting the narrative to make him look selfish and overly concerned with his future in politics.
After several minutes of going off on Harris, Shapiro seemed to regain his composure, but just a little. “I shouldn’t say ‘cover her a**.’ I think that’s not appropriate,” he told Alberta. He then clarified that he meant, “She’s trying to sell books. Period.” A handful of Democrats have acknowledged that the beef between Shapiro and Harris does indeed go back to the vetting process.

The Atlantic pointed out that Shapiro was also angry over anti-Semitic innuendo coming from within the progressive movement. The meeting between Harris and Shapiro quickly devolved into the latter interviewing the former about her leadership, direction, and her plans for governing the nation, according to observers from the left and right.
Many believe that Shapiro’s lashing out at Harris could be rooted in his potential bid for the White House in 2028, which could see him pitted against the former vice president in the primary race for the party nomination. He definitely poses a serious threat to any presidential aspirations Harris might have as he currently sits with an approval rating of nearly 60%.
