Vice President Kamala Harris’s team recently declined an interview with Time, as the magazine wrote a highly favorable cover story about the Democratic presidential nominee. The move is the latest example of Harris’s seeming refusal to engage with the press, as she has yet to conduct a formal press conference since she replaced President Biden on the ticket.
The article published by Time, “The Reintroduction of Kamala Harris,” featured glowing praise for Harris, such as comparing a recent rally of hers to that of a Beyonce or Taylor Swift concert. The piece also likened the energy behind Harris’ campaign to “the early days of Barack Obama.”
However, the story acknowledged that Kamala has refused to give a “substantive interview,” including denying speaking to Time. “Harris has yet to do a single substantive interview or to explain her policy shifts. (Her campaign denied a request for an interview for this story.)” the article read. Harris has reportedly gone almost a month without holding a press conference.
Nonetheless, Time cited praise from top-ranking Democratic allies, such as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who stated, “To consolidate the Democratic Party in a matter of hours, to do as many visible events and establish that presence without putting a foot wrong, is a feat.” He continued, “I don’t think anybody expected her to be so flawless.”
Leftist gun control activist David Hogg also illustrated Harris’ prospects in the upcoming election, claiming, “Elections come down to vibes, and Kamala has got the vibes right now.” Prominent California Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff also downplayed concerns that Harris is not popular among the American public, given her historically low approval rating.
He told the outlet, “It’s always hard for the Vice President, because the President is the one setting the policy, taking the responsibility. And historically, Vice Presidents have often taken on the work that the President doesn’t want to do.”
During a recent campaign event in Michigan, Harris claimed she would soon have her team schedule an interview within the month amid the intense criticism of her note engaging with the media. “I’ve talked to my team. I want us to get an interview scheduled before the end of the month,” Harris said.
The American Tribune recently reported on comments from vice presidential candidate JD Vance. Vance has continually blasted Harris for not talking to the press while he has made notable efforts toward his media efforts. Vance simultaneously called out Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, over speculation surrounding his military service.
Watch Vance below:
Vance took to social media, writing, “I enjoyed sitting down with three of the major networks today to answer the tough questions any leader should answer.” He continued his criticism and cited the controversy surrounding Harris’ running mate, Tim Walz, and his disputed military service. “Kamala Harris has done as many tough interviews as Tim Walz has battlefield deployments,” he continued.
Continuing to raise concerns about Walz’s dishonesty and Harris choosing him as a running mate, Vance said, “The truth is that Tim Walz didn’t tell the truth. And importantly, Dana, this is about Kamala Harris’s judgment. And I think that when you ask, why has Kamala Harris allow the border to be wide open? Why is Kamala Harris supporting policies that have promoted the increase in inflation? I think it goes to the heart of her judgment, and I think that that’s what we should be talking about.”
