America’s affirmative action vice president Kamala Harris took a mind-numbingly absurd position on what the Biden administration on one hand says isn’t a problem at all and on the other says is a huge problem as a result of Republicans’ “unwillingness” to seek reform.
Speaking to National Public Radio, Harris claimed that the border – which White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre just announced was not open – has become such a hot-topic item as a result of her political rivals refusing to “engage in any meaningful reform.”
The only thing missing from her statement was that god-awful cackle.
“And sadly, what we have seen in particular, I am sad to say, from Republicans in Congress is an unwillingness to engage in any meaningful reform that could actually fix a lot of what we are witnessing,” Harris said during her interview.
It’s a bold statement from someone tapped by the Biden administration to identify “root causes” of the border crisis almost two years ago, with essentially nothing to show for it.
“I think that there is so much that needs to happen to address the issue,” she then said, before adding, “Reform of our immigration system can only happen through Congress in terms of the passage of an immigration bill that allows for a legal pathway to citizenship and a legal presence in the country.”
Harris did not address how ending Title 42 would help.
Of course, this is not the first time this talking point has been rolled out. ABC’s partisan anchor Martha Raddatz sat down with Texas governor Greg Abbott and pinned the blame squarely on him and other Republicans such as Florida’s governor Ron DeSantis.
“I don’t think I’ve ever heard President Biden say, ‘We have an open border, come on over,’ but people I have heard say it are you, are former President Trump, are [Florida Gov.] Ron DeSantis. That message reverberates in Mexico and beyond,” Raddatz claimed.
Even Harris is not new to the gaslighting of how and why the border is broken. Speaking to NBC’s Chuck Todd earlier this year, she defended her administration’s handling of the border, which has enabled millions of illegal entries since Donald Trump left office.
“The border is secure, but we also have a broken immigration system, in particular, over the last four years before we came in, and it needs to be fixed,” she said to Todd last September.
Todd asked if she was confident that the border is secure as millions of people were set to cross into the country illegally for the first time ever.
“We have a secure border in that that is a priority for any nation, including ours and our administration,” Harris replied. “But there are still a lot of problems that we are trying to fix given the deterioration that happened over the last four years. We also have to put into place a law and a plan for a pathway for citizenship for the millions of people who are here and are prepared to do what is legally required to gain citizenship.”
By some estimates, Joe Biden will oversee five million new illegal entries and settlements into the United States over his four-year tenure. Between January of 2021 and June of 2022, more than two million had already entered the United States.
