In a quite sad moment that struck early this this December, Fox News Channel guest contributor Dr. Kelly Powers, known mainly for her appearances on Red Eye and Fox Business, passed away following a long-running and mostly hidden battle she fought with a rare and quite aggressive form of brain cancer.
Dr. Powers, a surgeon who was just 45 years old when she passed away, succumbed to her glioblastoma, a frequently fatal form of brain cancer, on Sunday, December 1. She had been diagnosed with the horrific form of cancer back in 2020, and managed to hold out for around four years despite the cancer’s aggressiveness and deadliness.
Her heart-wrenching obituary was published by Holmdel Funeral Home. It read, “Kelly Ann Powers, 45, of Colts Neck, died on Sunday, December 1. Kelly was born in Yonkers, NY to Joan Marie and Joseph Powers. She attended St. Bartholomew’s School, and went on to graduate from the Academy of Our Lady of Good Counsel High School. Kelly studied undergrad at Baruch College in New York.”
Describing her medical career and early family life, it then provided, “She then pursued her medical school training at New York College of Podiatric Medicine, followed by a Master of Science degree at the University of San Francisco. She then attended Georgetown and Boston Universities for her residency programs. She and her husband married and began their family in Colts Neck.”
Continuing, the obituary then provided, “She was a brave and beautiful soul who could make friends anywhere she went. Kelly had a love for people and she was dedicated to helping others. She held many hobbies including gardening, surfing, ballet, biking, running, horseback riding, travel, and several more activities. Kelly was an accomplished doctor and surgeon who held several spotlights on TV and magazines. Most important to her was her family.”
Sadly, the funeral home’s obituary noted that not only was she survived by her husband and son, but her parents survived her as well. That part of the tragic obituary provided, “She is survived by her husband, Steven Doll, her son Bennett, her parents, and her mother and father-in-laws Daniel and Laraine Doll.”
The obituary also provided where people could leave a memory or donation in memory of her, saying, “In lieu of traditional remembrances, Kelly’s family asks with gratitude that donations in her memory be made to Stache Strong (www.stachestrong.org) For messages of condolences, or to share a favorite memory of Kelly, please visit her page of tribute at www.HolmdelFuneralHome.com.”
Speaking to Preferred Health Magazine in an interview after her first diagnosis. Dr. Powers said, commenting on how she found out about her illness and how there are often signs that are missed, saying, “It’s crazy. I went into heart failure while doing a report on Fox Business — live — on heart health and talking about the subtle signs that women often miss. You can’t make this up.” Because her insurance wouldn’t cover some over her treatment, friends and family worked together to raise around $100,000 to help care for her.
