Trouble is mounting for far-left Democratic candidate Abdul El-Sayed at the last minute, as Americans, including Democrats, and even Democratic politicians in his state, are rejecting his candidacy at the last minute and are backing his Republican opponent, former Rep. Mike Rogers, instead. In fact, they’re even calling on their voters and fellow party members to not just refuse to vote for El-Sayed, but to propel Rogers to victory.
Such became clear as a number of local Democratic politicians spoke to the New York Post about Abdul, Rogers, and the ongoing election. Amongst those was Democrat City Councilwoman Mary Waters, who spoke to the New York Post and said that Democratic voters should split their ballot to back Rogers rather than support the radical Abdul El-Sayed.
“There are a number of people that don’t even know that they can split their ballot in the general election,” Democrat City Councilwoman Mary Waters told the NYP. She added, “Please don’t feel as though that you cannot, if you liked Mike Rogers, that you cannot vote for him. You can, if you want to.” And, pretending to be mysterious but in reality making her decision perfectly clear when asked who she will be voting for, she said, “I won’t say who I’ll be voting for, but I will be splitting my ticket.”
In backing Mike Rogers, Mary Waters was joining fellow Michigan politician Haley Stevens, who also refused to back Abdul El-Sayed at the last minute, and instead threw her support behind Mike Rogers’s candidacy in a surprise move that had Chuck Schumer fuming and raging online.
Also siding against Abdul El-Sayed and calling on Democratic voters to throw their support behind Rogers was former West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin, who, as the New York Post reported, said, “I do support Mike Rogers.” The NYP further added that Manchin said, “I think Mike Rogers is a good person. I think he’ll do a great job.”
Similarly, Pennsylvania Democratic Senator John Fetterman decided to back Rogers by backing Rep. Stevens, saying, “Rep. Haley Stevens simply held Abdul El-Sayed accountable for his views on Israel and fixation with Jewish money. El-Sayed is going after a woman and banning her from campaign events for having an opinion. El-Sayed’s overreaction demonstrates why he struggles with groups of Michigan voters. He has the worst case of little man syndrome I’ve ever seen.”
Still more joined in. As the NYP noted in its report on those ditching far-left Abdul El-Sayed to support the Republican Mike Rogers, his other Democrat backers include “former Democratic Rep. Hansen Clarke, state Rep. Karen Whitsett, and prominent fundraiser David Kramer, the former finance chairman for Sen. Elissa Slotkin, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and Stevens.”

Rogers, for his part, praised Stevens for endorsing him. “Haley Stevens is not the first one to do this. She may be the most prominent one,” he said, further noting that her decision was defined by “courage and bravery.” He also noted, “There are elected officials, a Democrat County Sheriff who said this guy’s position on defunding the police is so extreme, they can’t do it. The list continues. This is a pattern. When you have that many people out on him, people start to listen.”
