As woke Disney movies crash and burn, a Christian film, Sound of Freedom, is sucking up all the media attention and reaping huge rewards from the box office thanks to its powerful message and potent presentation. In fact, it is projected to earn a whopping $40 million in its opening week.
The stunning success of the film is less surprising once one looks at the audience reviews of it: the film received an A+ on CinemaScore and a 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Whereas leftists like those at Rolling Stone might attack the film for informing audiences what has happened to the children, audiences loved it.
Brandon Purdie, the Head of Theatrical Distribution at Angel Studios, the studio that released the powerful movie, said, “As with our July 4th numbers, today’s numbers exceed our expectations, and we’re going to continue this momentum. SOUND of FREEDOM has taken on a life of its own. We’re getting messages from all over the country telling us about packed theaters, sold-out theaters, and spontaneous standing ovations for the film in numerous locations. Seeing this film has become a must thanks to incredible word-of-mouth.”
Continuing, Purdie thanked those theaters that worked with the studio to distribute the powerful movie, saying, “We’re deeply grateful to AMC, Cinemark, Regal, and all our theater partners—and their hard-working theater staff members—for working with us to accommodate the surging demand for this film and having the courage to release SOUND OF FREEDOM during the busiest movie season of the year.”
Angel Studios also, in the press release that contained Purdie’s statement, cheered its own success with the film on opening day and in the opening week, noting that the film was backed by crowdfunding and achieved huge results, saying, “Angel Studios–a platform and studio empowering filmmakers to crowdfund, create, and distribute films and TV series globally, backed by thousands of Angel investors–is announcing its July cumulative-to-date and opening weekend results for SOUND OF FREEDOM. The Jim Caviezel driven film achieved the number 1 spot on its opening day with the film kicking off its wide US release, and the number 3 spot over its first weekend.”
That press statement notes that the Opening Weekend Box Office Projection was $18,200,000 and the Opening Week Box Office Projection is $40,200,000. Both of those are massive sums for a crowdfunded movie put on by people outside the normal Hollywood scene.
Tim Ballard, who directed the movie, hit back at criticism of it in a recent interview with Jordan Peterson, saying, “It’s very real, there’s witch doctery. They take these children, they take their organs, they take their blood, they drink it, they take the genitalia of children… These are real things. So, I might say something like that and then they connect it to something a QAnon person says about a celebrity who must be doing this too. But there’s no evidence to back that. They make a false connection there.”
Angel Studios notes that “SOUND OF FREEDOM is based upon the true story of former government agent Tim Ballard who quit his job to rescue a little girl from sex traffickers in the Colombian jungle. In the process, Tim ended up saving 123 people, 55 of which were children, from one mission alone.”
