The official White House X account posted a photo of First Lady Melania Trump and pediatric cancer survivor DJ Daniels on March 11, 2025. In his historic address to Congress, President Trump honored Daniels by giving him an honorary commission as a secret service member and applauding the boy for his bravery. Daniels has been honored by dozens of police departments with honorary commissions.
Despite this heartwarming story, liberal activists pounced on the president. Some, such as MSNBC anchor Michelle Wallace, horrifically said, that she hoped he would not commit suicide because of something like January 6. On social media, many users chimed in to lend their support to Daniels and First Lady Melania Trump.
The White House post read, “First Lady Melania Trump & Agent DJ Daniel.” The two are pictured embracing in front of a portrait of George Washington. Social media users posted dozens of supportive messages on the viral post. Many drew attention to the boy’s bravery and questioned why Democrats would object to Daniel’s honorary position.
“This makes my heart so happy. This is a photo representing our country. This is what people should be celebrating. DJ, I pray you are blessed beyond measure throughout your entire life,” reads one reply. Another jokes, “Are Secret Service agents supposed to hug the people they are on the protective detail for?” One commenter says, “He seems like such a loving boy, and I truly hope for nothing but the best for him.”
Many of the replies drew attention to Melania’s class and grace. “This is the classiest First Lady I’ve seen in my life. And well done young man on your Secret Service appointment. Well deserved!” noted one comment. Another asked, “Is there a single photo in which FLOTUS doesn’t look amazing?”A user noted, “How sweet is our First Lady! Beautiful picture!”

However, the coverage from the mainstream media was much less positive. As we reported at the time, MSNBC’s Michelle Wallace attacked Trump and made a nasty comment about the boy. She said, “Let’s just stick with DJ. I mean, I think that if there was a moment where your whole body could relax and you could celebrate someone, it was the 13-year-old cancer survivor who would like to be a police officer.”
She then attacked the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) for attacking fraud, snapping, “It was a genuinely beautiful moment. And the moment that probably was most familiar to the State of the Union addresses were both a part of. Problem is, in the beauty of that child is the tragedy of the Trump presidency, because he’s we don’t know how he survived pediatric cancer, but it is likely he benefited from some sort of cancer research.”
Wallace then tried to tarnish the touching moment by falsely claiming that the J6ers killed police officers, a common liberal talking point. She said, “He also talked about wanting anyone who murdered a cop to receive the death penalty. But Donald Trump’s first action was to pardon all of the January 6 insurrectionists who assaulted and violently beat cops.”
Wallace then added, “I think this was a lesson in finding one thing that you let yourself feel. I let myself feel joy about DJ and I hope he’s alive for another 95 years. Right? And I hope he lives and the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop. He knows what he wants to do and maybe when you have childhood cancer, that crystallizes for you.”
She concluded, getting to her horrid suicide remark, “And I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer, but I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters. And if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide. And I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then live to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”
