“Yellowstone” star Kevin Costner and wife of 18 years, Christine, are divorcing. News on the marital split comes from Costner’s representative, who told Fox News Digital that the couple will be getting divorced after nearly two decades of marriage.
Speaking on that, Costner’s representative said, “It is with great sadness that circumstances beyond his control have transpired which have resulted in Mr. Costner having to participate in a dissolution of marriage action.” Continuing, the rep asked for privacy for the couple, saying, “We ask that his, Christine’s and their children’s privacy be respected as they navigate this difficult time.”
TMZ reported must the same thing in its report on the couple’s divorce, saying that it is, as of now, unclear what led to the split, though Christine Clostner cited “irreconcilable difference” as the vague reason. The couple have three children together, aged 12, 14, and 15. Further, there’s a prenup between Christine and Kevin Costner, so she is not asking for spousal support.
The news about Costner’s split with his wife comes hot on the heels of news of his split with the show “Yellowstone,” on which he will have starred for five seasons. News on that came from Deadline, which reported that Costner’s divided attention became “a source of frustration for [creator Taylor] Sheridan.” Further, Deadline added that reported limitations imposed by Costner about how many days he would be available for filming both season 4 and the first half of season 5 was a major source of friction for the Yellowstone cast, staff, and Costner.
As a result, Deadline claimed, Costner and Paramount are parting ways after season 5 of the show and Paramount is now in talks to extend the Dutton saga with a new spinoff led by Matthew McConaughey.
Costner and his team and now pushing back on those allegations somewhat, calling the claim that he only made one week available for shooting “ridiculous.” That came from his lawyer, Marty Singer, who told Puck News “The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of Season 5 of ‘Yellowstone’ is an absolute lie. It’s ridiculous — and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second. As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success.”
Similarly, Paramount has remained tight lipped about the drama and what’s going on with the show and Costner. When rumors about the show began to swirl, a spokesperson for the network gave a statement to Deadline in which they seemed unwilling to confirm or deny the report, saying:
“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
