On August 24, 2024, the daughter of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was arrested while driving on a suspended license after being pulled over by the police in Tyrone, Georgia, for using a cell phone while driving her car. Interestingly, Nathan Wade, the supposedly former lover of Fani Willis, Nathan Wade, showed up during the incident, leading some to question if their relationship is really over, as Willis and Wade claimed.
The offense with which the daughter, 25-year-old Kinaya Willis, is charged, driving with a suspended license, is a misdemeanor offense in Georgia. Georgia Code §§ 40-1-1 — 40-16-8(a) provides, “Except when a license has been revoked under Code Section 40-5-58 as a habitual violator, any person who drives a motor vehicle on any public highway of this state without being licensed as required by subsection (a) of Code Section 40-5-20 or at a time when his or her privilege to so drive is suspended, disqualified, or revoked shall be guilty of a misdemeanor for a first conviction thereof and, upon a first conviction thereof or plea of nolo contendere within five years, as measured from the dates of previous arrests for which convictions were obtained to the date of the current arrest for which a conviction is obtained or a plea of nolo contendere is accepted, shall be fingerprinted and shall be punished by imprisonment for not less than two days nor more than 12 months, and there may be imposed in addition thereto a fine of not less than $500.00 nor more than $1,000.00.”
In any case, during the incident, Willis, who is reportedly pregnant, told the police officers that she was using her cell phone on the road “due to her mother calling her related to her pregnancy.” That comes according to the police report. Further, Willis claimed during the incident that she was “unaware” that her license had been suspended as of May 13.
Then, after the incident, Ms. Willis was searched and handcuffed on the side of the highway, after which she was transported to the Fayette Country Jail on the aforementioned misdemeanor charge over driving with a suspended license. According to the incident report, Fani Willis showed up to take the car. “Willis’s mother later arrived on scene to take possession of her vehicle,” the incident report states. The place where Willis was arrested is about 30 minutes driving time from Willis’s Fulton County office.
The report, describing the arrest portion of the incident, notes, “Willis stated that she was unaware of her license being suspended at this time. I then asked Willis to place her hands behind her back, at which time she asked if she was being arrested.” It adds, “I then advised her that she was being placed under arrest for driving on a suspended license.”
Watch Willis and Wade appear at the scene of the incident here:
Wade and Willis had said when under the spotlight for their relationship that they were no longer together but were good friends. Wade, for example, told the court when being questioned by Trump’s attorney, “We’re very good friends.” He added that they were closer because of the scrutiny, saying, “Probably closer than ever because of these attacks.”
X personality Collin Rugg, describing the incident, wrote, “BREAKING: Fani Willis shows up on the side of the road with her “ex” *Nathan Wade* after her daughter was arrested for a suspended license. You literally can’t make this up. New bodycam footage shows Willis with Wade, a man who she claimed she was no longer in a relationship with, on police bodycam footage. Willis’ pregnant daughter Kinaya Willis was arrested in Tyrone, Georgia for driving with a suspended license last week. Willis came under fire for her improper relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade. Willis claimed their relationship ended years ago.”
