Jim Carrey Attempts Promoting Show One Last Time Before Leaving Twitter

After many ditched Twitter (at least temporarily) over Elon Musk deciding that the bird app wouldn’t be as censorship prone as it had been under Jack’s “leadership”, much less Parag Agrawal’s short time as CEO, another woke celebrity has left Twitter. That would be Jim Carrey, who recently announced that he would be leaving Twitter without saying why.

As could be expected of a self-important celebrity on Twitter, his announcement to leave wasn’t just that. It was also an advertisement. Here’s what Carrey said:

I’m leaving Twitter, but 1st here’s a cartoon I made with my friend Jimmy Hayward. It’s based on my painting of a crazy old Lighthouse Keeper, standing naked in a storm, summoning the angels and shining his lamp to guide us through a treacherous night. I love you all so much! ;^j

    So that looks predictably terrible.

And the comments on Twitter were not nice to Carrey. One, for example, made fun of the hysterical way in which people are leaving Twitter for far worse options, saying:

I have been a longtime user of Twitter since its inception in 2006. Ever since it’s inception, the app was PERFECT with 0 flaws. But since Elon Musk took over, this app has went severely downhill. That’s it, I’m moving to SOMALIA & taking my social media business to Tumblr. Bye!

Another joked that he wouldn’t be at all missed, saying “Goodbye 🌹 don’t worry Jimmy we won’t feel your absence ❤️” Similarly, another poster said “Thanks for that announcement that nobody cared about.”

Still another said “Mate, I had a lot of respect for you until this moment. Now it turns out that you are just another Hollywas drone. Very sad.” That tweet included a pretty funny meme too:

And there was the easy joke about celebrities pretending to leave but then not really doing so, saying “I love it when liberal celebrities say they’re leaving but then don’t leave. All that money and still need attention. You haven’t been relevant since the 90’s!”

Then there was the great reminder of why celebrities like Carrey are leaving…they’re scared of free speech. That person said “funny how everyone is this afraid of free speech. what will we actually find out about these folks? Elon Musk has done more for HUMANITY than all the “celebrities” combined.”

Perhaps the funniest comment at Carrey’s expense, however, came from Jimmy Failla. He said “Jim Carrey just announced he’s leaving Twitter. It’s only fair since he left comedy 20 years ago.”

ByBerry, commenting on why Carrey and others are leaving Twitter now that Musk has taken over, noted that:

Twitter will stop enforcing a certain disinformation policy, and the decision has sparked fears among public health professionals. They are worried that this change can discourage people from certain things and worsen a certain situation.  Paul Russo, dean of the Katz School of Science and Health at Yeshiva University in New York, believes that the company’s decision to alter its strategy is a betrayal of its duty to its customers. According to Russo, Twitter’s most recent step may ultimately drive away users and perhaps advertisers. Some well-known companies have already halted their online advertising due to worries about Twitter’s future under Musk.Musk recently announced that he would “amnesty” Twitter-banned account owners.
