Fitness influencer and former “Biggest Losers” star Jillian Michaels recently appeared on Fox Business’s “Varney & Co.” where she was asked about leaving California and her thoughts on Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s leadership.
Michaels indicated earlier this year that she fled California and moved to Florida because of Newsom, noting that the Sunshine State is “less crazy.” The fitness guru is one of many California residents who have recently moved to red states.
Host Stuart Varney asked Michales, “I’ve got to leave time in this interview for what you did, you left California. And you went to Florida? And you left California because of Governor Newsom. Give me 30 seconds on what’s wrong with Governor Newsom.”
Michales responded that “everything” was wrong with Gov. Newsom’s leadership, questioning how much longer the state can function. She proceeded to illustrate one of her gripes with the state’s LGBTQ-related legislation that purportedly decriminalizes sexual offenses.
The fitness expert said, “Everything is wrong with Governor Newsom. And I think if you look at the state and the status of where everything is at it speaks for itself. I mean, how much time do we actually have? There was a law that was passed before I had left where you know, as a as a matter of LGBTQ rights, a sex offender within ten years… So if a 14-year-old child sleeps with a person who’s 24, then it’s consensual. The 24-year-old doesn’t need to register as a sex offender. Or the judge can decide whether or not I mean, I remember being horrified by that. And that was years ago, and it became exponential. It was a snowball from there with madness. I just cannot stand do you stand what he’s done to California.”
Michaels recently argued with comedian Bill Maher on her move to Florida and his support for Gavin Newsom. She explained to Maher why Newsom’s leadership ultimately drove her to leave California for a better life.
During a February appearance on Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, the host noted he has been trying to convince Newsom to run for president. “Are you serious? Are we living in Gavin Newsom’s California? Why?” Michaels hit back. “I left because of him, moved to Miami. Lived [in California] my whole life.”
Maher questioned if Michaels was happier in Florida, to which she replied, “Yeah.” She later elaborated, “It feels less crazy than it does here.” Maher disputed that Florida was less crazy, asking, “Really? The place where the people are on bath salts?”
Michaels proceeded to illustrate the tangible impact of California’s politics that she felt, citing issues such as crime and homelessness. “Is the crime affecting our lives? Is the homelessness affecting our lives?” she asked. She further explained to Maher that her California home had been burglarized.
“Guess who let the guy out during Covid, because I got the letter. Newsom!” Michaels said. “It was the guy’s third offense, he broke into our house, he had duct tape and a video camera. Anyway, long story, third strike, guy goes to jail, gets let out during COVID. I mean give me a f****** break.”
